Hi guys,
There is a local guy here selling an old ZARZON cabinet for $100. He said it's not working, but the cabinet is in great shape, and can be fixed up real nice. I'm semi-interested, but i would like to check w/ the forum experts to see if this is a good deal or not. Cabinet still has intact coin door and monitor. I'm meeting with him tomorrow afternoon to check it out. It would be nice if you guys can give me some advice before then. Here is a picture he took: http://img8.exs.cx/img8/8061/zarzon0ql.jpg
A few more questions:
is this cabinet worth getting to be restored and resell (i.e. is there a good profit to be gained)?
I'm planning to modify this into a mame cab...can I do this w/ this cabinet, or will i be destroying some pricelessly rare collector's item?
Sorry for all the questions, I'm brand new to this hobby.
Much thanks for your patients.

I dont' believe the game is worth that much but wouldn't know. I don't believe working it would be worth more then 300-400 bucks. Only true classics or weird rares are selling for a lot these days. But Peale might know. The rare could really change what I'm saying.
but after that....
You can get a good old cabinet painted over side art gutted for 25 - 50 bucks. So one with good sideart / bezel ect that you like 100 bucks isn't bad... You want it to look like you want... And getting sideart later is MUCh more expensive then 50 bucks.
If the monitor is working then you have a good deal.
But if the monitors dead... and your expecting to paint over the sides / front / bezel... then its not a great deal...
As for preserving... you should consider keeping the original control panel anyway so you can always return it back to the original state. Then you can mame it and later restore it if you find an working board...

Actually, Paige would be a better judge. I've heard of the game, but not sure on it's value.
Most games (unless they're the big collectibles) aren't a moneymaker when it comes to restoration.
Oh, and my opinion is $100 is *way* too much for a nonworking game. (again, depending on the game)
Here it is:

Might be a neat game to try and get working. I'd offer him $25 *max*. If he balks, walk.

I agree with Peale.

I still say if the monitor works and if you like the look of the cab (ie, no need for more artwork) 100 is fair.
for 25 bucks I kinda expect black painted sides and possibly a monitor bezel.
IE, if you like it... and its something you want in your living room. Then 100 bucks is a good deal.
But if you DONT like the looks... expect to pay 150+ on extra sideart + bezel + ect...

thanks for responds guys. much appreciated.
this guy also offers an empty T2 cabinet (no guns, no monitor, no coin door). side art still looks good.
i think i might offer him $25 for this cab, instead of the zarzon.
i'll keep you guys updated with some pics if i do decide to get the cab.
thanks again guys.

Paige finally spots his name and chimes in.
You would have trouble getting $100 for that thing in fully working condition. There is zero demand for that game.
Read old posts on RGVAC about it, they consist almost completely of people wanting to get rid of them, and no one showing ANY interest.

i ended up grabbing the t2 cab for 50bux. the side art is in great shape.
it came w/ the control panel (minus guns), the mirror (perfect shape), and the grounding mechanism for the monitor (i dont really know what its called). i think i got a decent deal on this as it saved me the trouble of building a cab from scratch.
