What are your favorite movies? and Why? Just curious, mine is the newer Oceans 11. It's the smartest movie I have ever seen. All good actors, Las Vegas, everything is just perfect. The way they pulled off the robbery was so perfectly planned and executed I'm surprised no one has tried it in real life. So what are your favorite movies? and how come?

Raiders of the Lost Ark
Lord of the Rings
Road Warrior
-
Blade Runner - Great cast, great director, great source material. The ultimate homage to Film Noir.
Man Bites Dog - Maybe the most disturbing film I have ever seen. It's a psudo documentary (like Spinal Tap but not funny) - about a serial killer. A very original take on an oft sensationalized subject.
Naked Lunch - If you have ever read the book by William S. Burroughs, you would say that it's impossible to film. David Cronenberg pulled it off, and I think it's the best thing I've seen Peter Weller do. If you are ever looking to rent it, it sometimes winds up in the Sci-Fi or horror section, which it is definitely not.

I hated The Game and don't think everything comes together in the end. Agreed on Memendo, though.
Silence of the Lambs - Characters, Suspense, Chilling
Pulp Fiction - Dialogue, Editing
Raising Arizona, O Brother Where Art Thou, um...everything the Coen Brothers have ever made (aside from Intolerable Cruelty) - Sheer brilliance.
Evil Dead 2 Slapstick
-
Shawshank Redemption
Good Fellas
Lonesome Dove
-
Clerks - Funny stuff to which I can relate, plus it brings back good memories.
The Brain That Wouldn't Die - I really love cheesy old horror movies, and this is the cheesiest of all.
The Empire Strikes Back - The only Star Wars movie I can watch over and over.
Strange Brew - Take off, ya hoser!

Office Space - The movie everyone makes in their head or in casual conversation about their job, but somebody actually decided to put it on film
Caddyshack - why do I like it? Two words. Carl Spackler.
Goodfellas - It's a shorter, easier-to-watch take on "the life", cuz I just can't sit through The Godfather.
Say Anything - It feels so "me"
-
Very bad things - Most guys can see this movie easily happening, most women things its stupid.
Office Space - After 10 years in corporate America, I had to make a change. This movie explains why.
Anything by Tarantino (Pulp Fictin, Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2, Jackie Brown etc)
Anything by Kevin Smith (Clerks, Chasing Amy, Mallrats, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back)
-
AHHH..Kevin Smith, own them all on DVD...hard to make a choice of which is best though.
-
Tarantino is obnoxious and pretentious. I can't sit through any of his films without wanting to slap somebody.
That said....
Waaaaaaaater sucks. It really really sucks. Wa WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAater sucks. It really really suuuuucks!

Fletch -- Funniest movie ever.
Chevy Chase still had "it" when he made this movie.
Fight Club -- I can

Spaceballs
War Games
Spies Like Us
Monty Python (Meaning of Life, Holy Grail, Life of Brian)

I'll add a few of my favorites...
An American Werewolf In London - Rick Baker's werewolf trans effect (the Paris sequel doesn't measure up) and it's a John Landis movie
Evil Dead series - Raimi and Campbell
Ginger Snaps - Katharine Isabelle
A Nightmare On Elm Street - best Wes Craven movie (before Freddy became "commercial")
I know most of these fit the "horror" genre, but there are a few goodies there that stand out above the others in it.
-
Office Space
Goonies
Predator
