I loved this movie when I was a kid and it has everything I want in a cab theme.... colorful, magical, and something that would take everyone back in time a little bit.
-
Maybe you could work in something about the Oompa Loompa's or the WONKAVATOR.
-Goz
-
movie comes out on july 15th and is actually called "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory"..

Well, there's always the obvious: WONKADE ;D
Though I vote for The Everlasting Gobstopper. That'd make a hell of a marquee. Whatever you do, go for bright colors on the paint scheme, like purple and yellow. Way too many black cabinets out there ;)
-
not sure if it is an issue, but a significant other might have an issue with the color of the cab.. black can go with anything, but yellow or orange might be an eye sore...
-
The one problem I'm having with this so far is that I think there's a remake of the movie coming out sometime soon.
-
Thats a great idea, and what a great movie! The new one coming out will be garbage, unless its like oceans 11 where the old one isn't good but the new one is great, although the old willy wonka is marvelous. You should do the CPO, sideart, and marquee all Willy Wonka, go all out. You should also throw in the word "Scrumdidlyumptious" somewhere. Maybe when you turn on the computer you could have it play one of the OOMPA LOOMPA songs. Just some suggestions, get to work!
-
I like "The Golden Ticket"
Did you ask Uma?
-
Probably a bit more than you were originally asking for...
but why not 5 cabs, one "Golden Ticket" cab for each Golden Ticket in the movie.... each one playing a different "Oompa Loompa" song at bootup....
then, you'd have your horizontal, vertical, driving, etc cabs at the same time....
-
Or a motorized rotating monitor cab that plays the oompa-loompa while the monitor is rotating ;D

ANYTHING that can appeal to kids WILL be marketed and licensed to death. So brace yourself.
Yeah, but have you seen the trailer for this thing?! Depp looks frickin' terrifying. I swear he is channeling Michael Jackson for this role. I'll go see it, but I think it might scare the bejeezus out of kids. At least I hope so.
-
Depp DOES look weird, but the Hulk wasn't "for kids" either ( he's mean and scary looking ), but look what they did with that.
-
And Hulk flopped at the box office, so what are you trying to say?
-
ooh.. and for the start buttons on the CP overlay use oompa-loompas instead of the generic little men symbols
-
And Hulk flopped at the box office, so what are you trying to say?
I am saying, that even if something is "scary" for kids, that won't stop the "machine" from marketing to kids (Hulk cookies, Hulk sneakers, Hulk shirts, Hulk rubber fists, Hulk action figures, Hulk this, Hulk that, they made everything...)

True, true.
Regardless of what becomes of the remake though, I think this is a great theme for a cabinet.
-
You said that Hulk was big mean and scary, and was marketed for kids....yet it flopped at the box office...soooo..what I was trying to say is, even if something is marketed for kids, it may not always do well in the end.

You need to build in a camera that disassembles your atoms and reassembles you, much smaller, on the game screen!
-
Loving the ideas so far. ;D Setting up a camera that disassembles your atoms gave me a good laugh! As for the color scheme, I was stuck in black cab mode and knew that I wanted something with some color. Great idea with the yellow/purple. I'll have to see what colors will go well with my room.
As for the control panel, how about setting up the trackball to be part of an everlasting gobstopper? Hmmmmm, worth a shot. I'm no expert with the Photoshop tools but I'll see what I can do this weekend and post some mock-ups early next week. Thanks again for the ideas so far!
-
Ok here's the marquee and color scheme that I've got in mind so far. Purple works well with the room!! This is just a mockup so once I start working on the finished version, I'll need a high-res picture of Wonka (this one is just a quick cut-out for the mockup). I'll be messing around with control panel designs all weekend so any advice/comments on the marquee or color scheme will be welcomed! Any problems with me using a high-res cutout of Wonka on the marquee?

Might look good to strategically place some candy here and there on the cpo. Looks great so far though.
