My notebook from work, a Dell Inspiron, died recently, but the screen is good.
How tough would it be to remove it and hack it into some kinda bartop machine? Any other ideas?

most laptops (and especially dell) have a proprietary connection and video drivers to use the screen--hacking it would be extremely difficult if not impossible--I would just fix the laptop --might be as simple as swapping the bad part out.

I've seen websites in the past that describes how to do it.
many newer ones are dvi complient screens... but with proprietary connections..
search google and you might find some..
the other thing.... look on ebay and see if anyone has a super cheap notebook for sale with a bad lcd.
