You turn in golden tee using the buttons, left and right only affect your swing.

Left and right selects your club in Golden Tee.

Believe me, for every quarter the older guys spent on Tron, I spent an equal dollar in Golden Tee. My left and right on the trackball does not work at all on that game. No clubs and no hook unless I use the joystick. The joystick also works like the trackball in all the other games too if I wanted, so I'm stumped. Every other mame game it does just fine, so I don't think it is a mame issue per say. Just a gt issue? Also, where is the backspin button? I believe the older versions had them.

Under controls for this game, it says there is none for "x". How do I change it to the mouse? I don't know what to push, as moving the mouse alone doesn't cut it. It is the same way in Shuffleshot. This change occured between .86 and my upgrade last night to .94

Alomst just like remapping buttons. Tab, input (this game), up/down to highlight the TB X axis, press enter, spin TB in the X axis quickly. (More detailed info in mameFAQ (http://www.mame.net/mamefaq.html#h03)and easyemu (http://www.mameworld.net/easyemu/))
Or you can try deleting/editting GT's cfg file (in the cfg folder).
(Of course, "TAB", "ENTER", and "cfg folder" all assume you're using mame's defaults. ;) )

okay, i did get the option fixed for this game. My next question is, will i have to do that for every game?
if so, that could take awhile

the backspin button didn't come out until 2002. to get backspin you just have to hit the ball really hard.

excellent help fellas. I wonder why the "x" axis wasn't recognized in the itech games in .94?
must just be me.

I dunno, why are dualjoy games by default mapped to totally different keys than the player one and two joysticks? It makes absolutely no sense, does it?

It makes sense.
Look at seven "common" inputs:- keyboard (yes, yuck, but most common in outside BYOAC world)
- hotrod layout like CP (w/ keyboard encoder)
- BYOAC with | joy - buttons - joy -- joy - buttons - joy | (w/ keyboard encoder)
- one "stick" game pad layout
- dual stick game pad
- hotrod layout like CP (w/ two hacked joysticks)
- BYOAC with | joy - buttons - joy -- joy - buttons - joy | (w/ two hacked joysticks)
That's at least four different possible defaults for dual sticks, and arguably up to seven (or even twelve if you think of all keyboard / joystick combos). Somebody isn't going to like whatever defaults mame has.
So mame's dual stick defaults are best for the most commonly used inputs, a plain keyboard, and a pre-dual stick gamepad. [shrug]
But that's okay: we have the ctrlr file (and text editable cfg files now). :)
