Hiya folks,
It's been some time since I've visited here, though finally getting the cab outta storage and into the lounge room (yep!) ushered me back.
I thought i'd spruce it up with some movies in the FE which meant going from Mamewah v.9X to v.1.61.
I quite like the new ini system and have had no worries getting it all up and running though is something missing?
In the past versions I used to be able to access more advanced options from the menu - things like changing layouts, deciding which game lists to cycle etc etc
Can I still bring these options up?
They were really very handy, if people were visiting to play the cabinet I would switch the ability to change game lists off (great for hiding the main list/adult games...hell if only 'cause I'd never spent time with external programs to filter them).
It meant I could prepare specialised lists for different occassions and leave it locked to that easily.
I also loved the ability to change layouts on the fly with my cab. I would just name layouts to match mame keys (hence cp buttons) and could switch them without getting a keyboard out.
This is the most annoying part for me actually, it's a pain to have to open the cab, add keys/mouse just to change a layout. Especially when I don't have spares handy.
So can anyone give me a solution for this or fill me in as to why it's changed?
Hopefully I've just missed something simple!

In the meantime I've realised I can simply menu lock Mamewah and have it set to shut down the pc on exit which will do for now.
However, whilst that solves my problem of keeping users away from my game lists and options - it still leaves me with the slight frustration of not being able to switch layouts on the fly.

When Minwah was preparing to do his major upgrade to 1.6, he posted a poll asking whether or not people needed that functionality in MAMEWAH or if it should be left out of the in-FE menu system. Well, you can see result.
I believe the consensus was to leave out all non-gamelist functionality from the in-FE menu system.
My wonderful ;) MAMEWAH Config (http://www.bluecamel.org/2005/02/26/mamewah-config-1611) lets you set up 100% of the MAMEWAH settings using only your mouse and mouse buttons (keyboard is optional, for setting up game list names). Check it out.

Minwah should bundle MAMEWAH config with MAMEWAH.

Mamewah was the first FE I ever got going though much later on I tried your program (on an older MW version) and it was indeed fantastic. At the time I was cursing it for not being around earlier!
I'm all set up up now but maybe I'll use it as a convenient way of checking my installation out. After all, it's been a while and it would save jumping around between all those folders and ini's!
Thanks for bringing me up to date on the poll too.
Maybe I'll dig up that thread to see how convincing the results were!
Minwah if you're reading, is feasible to have a choice in MW for these advanced options to show, could they could be off by default but switched on only in the ini's perhaps?
That way we would all have what we want :)
Then maybe you could have the ability to turn them back off in the MW menu too, with a warning message to let the user know they can only be manually switched on again via the ini.
If all that's too complex then I suppose I'll just get busy making keyboard and mouse access easier on my (small) cabinet.
Thanks all.

Minwah if you're reading
He's on vacation for another month or so... See all that you've missed? ;)

Well nevermind anyway Minwah, I've just now finalised my MW installation and it's great the way it is I realise now.
I finally checked out and used Mame Content Manager (which took like 5 mins total) and can't recommend that program enough! It was the simplest, safest and quickest way to hide unwanted games and no one should be afraid of it.
This way even my screen saver won't show adult games accidently as MCM can handle those too.
So once again for the newb's and anyone rusty on this stuff;
Mamewah, Mamewah Config and Mame Content Manager all rock ;D
