Title: Custom vintage Cabinets in a real arcade!

While my wife and I were in Las Vegas recently, we checked out the local arcade.

I was suprised to find a "retro" section with some custom sit down cabinets.

I could barely drag my wife away from what she called "The most comfortable galaga machine ever!"

Nice.  Curious if their legal or not. 

Those chairs DO look comfortable.  I'm suprised that in vegas they would want anyone to be comfortable infront of anyting other then a slot machine.

I would think, if the actual boards were present, that they'd be legal....  looks like someone's gonna have to go back up there and have a peek  ;D

I'm sure they have the boards, most of those games have the original control panels and bezels and stuff just worked into those generic wooden cabinets.

I am sure it was an aesthetic decision from the management, it is much easier to do what THEY did,  and maintain THAT then it is to LOCATE and maintain an entire classic arcade of mint original cabinets.

Weird.

I never expected to see an arcade cabinet with wide Oak Crown Molding in my lifetime.

I would love to have one of those stools foy my short Pac-Man. I may have to add that to the to-do list.

Those are the same type of cabinets they have in the Gameworks arcades.

This was in the Las Vegas gameworks, so that would make sense. :)

That's it--next time I'm in Vegas, I'm saving all my money for Gameworks!  They have a small selection of classic games at the Luxor game room, but nothing like what I'm seeing in those pics.  :)

I have seen similar machines in the Gameworks in Orange County.  They have an Asteroids with original size vector monitor, so I don't think these are just Mame jobs.

My belief is that they do that because the average big name classic is in CRAPPY condition.

Find a Kangaroo or a Pot of Gold and the sucker will be mint.

Find a Missile Command or a Robotron and the sucker is going to be trashed. The only thing holding together the average Ms. Pac cabinet is the bad touch up paint on the side.

Most "nice" Ms. Pacs are in such poor condition that they would be instantly parted out if they were a lesser title.

I was surprised by how nice the $100 Kangaroo was at the KC auction. Ten minutes with a rag and some Simple Green, and that thing would have looked like it just came out of the box.  Even funnier was the fact that it was one of the few games with power, and still I never saw anyone playing it.
