Hi all,
I'm starting work on a new showcase cab, themed after the Shadowrun Role-Playing Game (http://www.shadowrunrpg.com/) - I love the artwork and the whole visual style.
There's one problam though... I can't seem to find any artwork whatsoever in big enough resolution...
Thing is, i can't let go of the theme... It's already a huge part of my vision of the cab... There is at least on picture i must have, but the biggest i got of it is 1280x659, and it's in very poor quality... Any ideas appreciated...
BTW, i have no talent when it comes to art, so i can't reproduce this thing... Also, here is the pic i mentioned...
EDIT: Okay, I'm desperate :(, so if anyone could trace this good, for free or for cheap, I'd love that... I dunno how well this would be in vector, so please tell me if you think it would suck... Sorry if i sound really stupid or offensive or something... I really need this... In any case, thanks in advance...

I loved that game on the SNES and Genesis. If you don't have any luck finding artwork, you could always buy the board game and scan the art at high res.... then return it ;)

I think it originated from a board game, but I have it on SNES and that logo is on the cartridge. I could try to scan it for you but my scanner isn't all that great either.

This place has some nice stuff. Click (http://sria.litbo.org/index.php?page=)
And this place should cover most of what you need click (http://www.wiredreflexes.com/sr/shadowrun/index.php)

Thanks, I've actually allready been to those sites, but neither of them has the logo (at least not that I've seen), nor are the pictures in a high enough res... :(
Thanks anyway though, I'll keep looking...

I still can't find anything... Maybe i should start looking at getting it vectorized? How much do you think that would cost? I'm really getting desperate, as i can't do without that logo...

deffinatley the second best rpg created. and the artwork they used in those books rocks. I'm sure someone here would do it for you if you asked nicely. I don't know if they charge people or not.

I was thinking the piece was a bit too complicated for me to be asking it done for free... I dunno though...
BTW, second best??? What's first then??? (and don't dare saying D&D... it's nice and playable, but doesn't come near Shadowrun...)
j/k, your free to think what you will... (as long as it's not D&D being better than SR!!!)
-
Earthdawn.
its shadowrun before any form of technology.
D&D rocks but cant hold a candle to shadowrun.

Agree... Never picked up Earthdawn though, is it still in print?
-
they released a second edition of it about 3 or 4 years ago.
Its currently being made by living room games.

Cool, thanks! I'll look into picking one up as soon as i have a positive balance ;).

Edited the OP...

this one is a little bit lighter and doesn't seem as pixelated. (http://www.nsbvs.de/docs/shr/gfx/SR-logo.jpg)

Yeah, i saw that one, but try printing this 28" x 15" big... You would get 1" pixels... :o
-
That would give it an oldschool pixely 80's arcade feel ::)

I meant for them to vecotrize for you. the size won't matter after its vectorised.

Oh, i'm just stupid so i didn't understand... :)
Good idea... Now i just need someone to actually agree to do it...

I hate bumping threads 'cause someone allways gets pissed at me, but i really need that art :(...
SHAME on me!!!

I don't think tracing this kind of art is feasible ;(
sorry

I guess that deep down in my heart i kinda knew that... If anyone has any other ideas, please share, but i guess i'm gonna have to go to pixel town...

I don't know a whole lot about art stuff by why wouldnt this one be able to be vectorized is it just the shading?

I'm not much of an expert either, but all those fine lines do look hard to trace... I dunno... Maybe it won't damage the look too much if we loose some of the detail and texture... I really have no idea though...

It can be done, but to get anything close to the painted look of the original would take one helluva lot of time and effort. And the size of the source image leaves much to be desired for something so detailed. So, given the fact of difficulty, little to no compensation, and the limited reusability of the image for anything arcade related, well, I can see why you're not getting any takers. I'm just sayin'.

*BUMP*
:( Maybe if someone can just do something similiar... I'm not asking for an amazing piece of art, just something....
-
The text (along with the stylized "S") would be fairly simple to vectorize.

Tracing the text would be good practice since it's less complex than the rest of the art.

Alright, this is the ultimate in laziness, but here is what a Flash traced version looks like, exported to .ai format. PM me if you want to use it, no big deal if you don't. :)

No, no. I took your .gif from the top of the thread, opened it in Photoshop, applied levels and the Median filter to get rid of the pixellation, then opened it in Flash and used the trace bitmap function to make a vectorized version of it. Then I exported it in Illustrator format. The reason that people don't use bitmap trace more often is obvious: The program has to 'guess' at what the color changes and shapes are, and the results are less than ideal. However, if you just trace (vectorize) the logo by hand, and combine it with this file, it should look decent.
-
No, no.
-
If I were you, I wouldn't use it as-is. Definitely get some vector practice by building a clean version of the Shadowrun logo in a layer on top of the other stuff, it will look much better, especially the Celtic knot, which has been basically ruined. Go for it! At the very least, click through all those shapes and unify the red color for more contrast. Also don't forget that it's very slightly cropped on the left side, and you should fix that.

Do you have a copy of Frosty's tracing tutorial? While it may not be geared toward the absolute beginner, it definitely helped me a lot more than the Illustrator documentation.
where would one find said tutorial
