11/24 Update: Added a couple shots of the CP and side art, which is almost finished being painted.
Hey everyone...
Well, after many weeks of reading, I've finally had the chance to register and post to the board.

additional shots...

more pics...

Awesome marquee! I like it.
-
Nice to see I wasn't the only one routing plexi on Friday.
Great art, I was thinking about doing an all out Vegas theme myself. Was considering a blackjack table-style CP, green with cards and chips laying on it. Chrome T-mold. Red buttons and red ball-tops, they resemble slot pull-handles. Maybe real poker chips around the monitor, on the bezel behind the glass?
Look forward to seeing the progress.

Thanks, Knievel...
Yeah..I had thought about a full-on Vegas style cab much like you had described--sort of a cross between a slot machine and BJ/poker table (I still may do it with some additions at this point). The idea of the 'real' chips embedded in the bezel came up last night, in fact!
I had actually hoped to finish the CP with the same qualty I noticed from your Flyercade pics--it just looks better with t-molding and sheet of Lexan on the top.

Here's a shot of the CP during the first test of the wiring:

The roulette wheel around the trackball is a great touch! I like it!
What software/emmulators are you using for the Casino part of the machine?
-
I love the roulette-trackball and the dice! You rolled a 12!
Very original idea.

Tom

BOXCARS!
Ha that looks great, took me a minute to see it.
Here's another idea for ya, chasing/flashing marquee-style lights behind the CREDITS text on the marquee...or maybe do the whole marquee. You could build something using white LEDS or just buy a muti-function Christmas light set. What color of t-mold are you going with?
And yes I've got lots of 'lockout-time' on my hands, my buddies are keeping me busy though...

Thanks for the comments, guys...
hatrick, haven't determined what casino software will be on the cab, but there will be at least one in there. I couldn't resist adding 'casino' to the title after determining that the cab will be in a game room with a BJ and poker table and a few antique slots...
T-molding is black right now, but that matches what came with the cab. That will be upgraded at some point--color TBD. Knievel, thought the idea of a Vegas-style chase lighting marquee would absolutely kick ass. That might have to be definite for ver. 2.0. <grin> Along the lines of the real chips around the bezel, I'm going to get one chip from each of the old-school casinos in Vegas on the next trip...should be pretty cool.
But, you'll notice that all of the die faces read 7. Great story on how that came about:
While in Vegas last year (there's a group of old teammates that makes an annual trip), we were at the Bellagio, playing a little craps. Now, I don't play craps thinking I'm going to win, I play simply for the entertainment value: it's the most fun you can have in a casino. As we're playing, the table's hot: everyone's winning, people are three-deep around and it's a scene out of a movie (if you've been to the Bellagio, you know the eye candy is top-notch)...
Another buddy on the trip finds us and as a novice at craps, starts asking about all of the bets. He's curious about the 'Don't', which I explain to him, and the shooter immediately craps out. I turn to the other guy and after much discussion, we take this as a sign that a new streak is about to begin. My friend and I switch and start betting against.
Well, I've never seen a table turn colder faster: for the next TEN rolls, not a single shooter hit a point. And at least half of them were 'easy' points: 6's and 8's. The 7 rolled more often than I had ever seen before.
By the time it was done, we were the only ones left standing: the table cleared out. So, that win became the 'cabinet fund', and I had to pay homage to one of the most amazing 'bad' streaks I've ever seen at a table...

hehe great story. I love your cpo, the roulette wheel around the trackball is very cool.
-
I love the theme - not to mention that I like how you pulled it off! And I didn't even notice the roulette wheel around the trackball until it was pointed out. Looks great!

To me that looks like a really cool design for a showcase cab's pedestal console!

Quick update from 6.25:
The difficult task of visiting dozens of casinos and collecting chips is almost done; side art in the final planning stages and arcade monitor is a great addition...
-
Where do you guys get all this cpo/marquee artwork? Is it expensive to get done up? printed(cpo), plexi(mar)? Just curious about how everyone seems to be getting the illest custom artwork.
loving the monitor.

XD:
Thanks...monitor is a huge plus: much better than S-video that was in there originally.
I created the side art/CPO/marquee artwork over the course of a week, so it's a custom job in that respect. Printing was actually pretty affordable: marquee is on backlit 'film' and the CPO is just an oversized print on film paper again (I didn't need laminating b/c it went under Lexan).
The job was done at a local print shop (I prefer a true printer as opposed to Kinko's, etc.), and totaled less than $50...
-
Well... Stunning job. So much talent here.
oh, and thanks for the breakdown!

Don't I wish? The closest we get to Hawaii on the East Cost is themed Happy Hours...
