Title: MAMEWAH and ROM List Help
Post by: mumbles on March 22, 2005, 09:20:08 pm
Hello,

I used to have an old mame rom set that I ran in mamewah (v0.097) and in mamewah on the game select screen it showed the name of the game (not the name of the rom), the year, type of joystick etc (I am using the mrsalty classic 640x480 layout). I recently updated my rame set and mame version to .94 but now the game list just has the name of the rom and nothing else. i cannot no matter what I change (I have mamewahsetup as well) get ths to change. I have even tried using the latest version of mamewah but can't fix it either (i prefer the old version as I can't get visual pinball working in the new one).

This is driving me mad!! can anyone help with some suggestions on how to fix it??

Thanks in advance

Are you the person who sent me an email?

Change your list_generation_method to rom_folder_vs_listxml, or in MAMEWAH Config, select "Rom folder and -listxml (post .84 versions of MAME", then re-create your default list.  Previous versions of MAME (pre-.84) used a different list generation method, so when you upgraded MAME you had to specify the new -listxml method.

Are you sure your emulator executable pointing to a version of MAME greater than .84?

It shouldn't even need to be greater than .84   My .55 setup uses "rom_folder_vs_listinfo" with no problem.

Did you try starting over with a new .ini and generating a new list?

In versions of .84 and above you don't have the option to use -listinfo,  It's -listxml only! :)

Hello,

I've got mamewah to generate a gameslist now with 5500 or so gams with the gae now (not the rom name) so I'm happy!!! Thanks for your help.

The only other thing I want to do (I'm using mamewah 1.61) is in mamewah v0.097 you used to be able to press "2" on the main lsit and go to a custom liost and hten copy games from the main list to the custom list. In mamewah 1.61 i don't get this option coming up. What i want to do is move games from the main list to a custom list that I set up so I only have the games I want showing up. Does anyone know how to do this??

Ok y'all, I guess I'm clueless....or maybe I need to run a different version of MAMEWAH.

No need to repeat any of the above, I'm just confused.  I'm running version .94 of MAME, but version .97 of MAMEWAH. Do I need to upgrade MAMEWAH to be able to get the full name of the game to show up?  I could have sworn I had the full names displayed once before (by trial and error), but then I went and adjusted something and they all left - and now I can't get them back either.

I'm just curious as to whether or not I need to upgrade MAMEWAH for it to work properly with MAME .94.

Never said I was the swiftest tack in the box (or sharpest, either).   ;D

Ok, I'd posted earlier on the thread about configuring MAMEWAH, asking if I still needed version .97, or 1.61 to run with MAME .94.  Being ever the internet junkie, I go ahead and install MAMEWAH 1.61 just to be "up to date"

NOW I've got a screen that only gives me the option of generating a game list!

AAAAAAAAAAAAARGGGGGGGGGGGH!!!!!!!!!!! ???

What am I doing wrong? (and why don't they have an emoticon pulling out it's hair?)

In your controller file for MAMEWAH there's an option ADD_GAME_TO_LIST.  By default it's 'A'.  In MAMEWAH Config you can configure this button to be whatever you want by clicking on the Global Settings tab and click the ellipses box next to the Controller drop down menu.  Once in the Controller Editor, find the option for "Add game to list" and define any key you'd like.

Technically, no, you don't have to upgrade MAMEWAH, but MAMEWAH .97 didn't know anything about the new MAME option -listxml or how MAME got rid of the -listinfo option (which MAMEWAH used to generate the game list). If you want to stick to the old version of MAMEWAH you have to jump through a few more hoops to get an updated game list:

1) Go to Start -> Run
2) Type 'cmd' and click OK
3) Navigate to your MAME folder using the 'cd' command (ex. cd \emulators\mame)
4) type: mame -listxml|xml2info>mame92.dat
5) In MAMEWAH, specify this new dat file (c:\emulators\mame\mame92.dat in this example) and that your list generation is dat file vs rom folder
6) re-run list generation

NOW I've got a screen that only gives me the option of generating a game list!

New version of MAMEWAH means you should re-generate your lists.  It's not required since you could copy all your .lst files from your old version of MAMEWAH to your new one and rename them, but it's always a good idea.

Thanks! I am very ticked at myself though - had everything well set up in 97 before I did this, and - like a dummy - deleted it all.  Now I've got to start the set up ALL over again (mercifully it won't be too hard - I still have all the art files, etc)

MAMEWAH Config (http://www.bluecamel.org/2005/02/26/mamewah-config-1611) can help make it a lot easier...
