Title: Sanwa buttons...which is the ground ?
Post by: brianoneill on March 21, 2005, 05:15:58 am
Ok, so I'm wiring sanwa buttons to my i-pac, I'm replacing my happs buttons.
The sanwa buttons have 2 metal strips to connect to.
Happs buttons have 3 (GND, NO, NC) ... I think :)

So with the Sanwa buttons, how do I know which connection the ground wire goes to ?

Help would be much appreciated :)

Cheers,
Brian.

More importantly, why does it matter that you hook the ground wire to the ground of the button?

As I was about to reply, "Go ahead and just hook wires up to it and see which way works."  I proposed a question to myself, is there any reason that the buttons have there inputs labled GND and NO other than if you would want to A) have two inputs hooked up to it, one NO and one NC or B) have just one hooked up to NO or NC and you just need to tell the difference.

The way I see it is that the only thing a button does is complete a circuit, there are no polarities when it comes to a simple switch such as an arcade pushbutton right?

If it were me, I'd just hook it up and see which way works.  With only three prongs and not taking polarity into consideration that only leaves 3 posibilities, (A&B) (A&C) (B&C)

Thanks.
there are only two prongs on the sanwa buttons.
I guess I'll use the old trial and error method.

it doesn't matter...

the only reason its an issue on the happs / 3 prong is the normal open / normal close.  If you have the ground on proper, then you can move the lead wire from normal close / normal open and have it work as expected.

but even the 3 prongs work just fine if you put the ground to the normal open pin, and the lean to the ground.  No difference at all.  Useful in some cases where cable length/location is an issue.
