Where can I get some specs/instructions on those Candy arcade machines? Also, has anyone made one with a rotating control panel?

You can't MAKE a Candy cabinet. A Candy cabinet is a modern Japanese arcade game cabinet. There isn't a splinter of wood in them anywhere.
They are manufactured, they are all curves, all metal and plastic. A rotating control panel would be impossible on that type of cabinet, as your legs are literally right up underneath a control panel that is only a few inches deep.
They are all JAMMA.
Most of them have 29" monitor (Japanese 29" monitor is the same exact monitor as a US 27"). All of them I have seen can have the monitor installed either horizontal or vertical. They usually have a seven button layout factory stamped in the panel, but often have button hole plugs filling the "kick" buttons. The joysticks can usually be changed between true 4-way, true 8-way and true 2-way underneath the panel.
The button layout is ergonomic, and (I have owned one for a YEAR and I just noticed this) they are actually at different angles for player one and player 2 to account for the fact that the players will be facing the machine from different sides.
There is pretty much no customizing them other than what you can put on the inside.
Pretty much you buy the game with no game board in it for $300-$700 (depends on locations, style and condition), and then put your own game board or your own mame system inside.

I had that idea briefly, but it wouldn't be the same, control panel area would be problematic as the extra thickness needed to use wood would get in the way of your legs.
But you can buy one for the money you would spend trying to build a wooden one.

Yep.. friend bought one for 300.. was brand new.. shipping was 200 or so..

I was thinking about building something similar at one point before realizing how much work it would be. I was thinking about cutting wood panels, routing all the edges, and painting it gloss white and black. Some of the funky shapes of these cabinets can only be accomplished structurally by using a metal frame. The best I ever found with dimensions is the flyer for Sega's Astro City cabs on the Arcade Flyer Archive.

Even then it only shows the dimensions of the finished cabinet. For the shallow CP area I was planning on building the outer frame and then using metal plates on the top and bottom. It never made it past the planning stage though.
Converting from millimeters comes up with dimensions of 56.9"x 29.5"x 35.6" for the Astro City. There are a ton of different candy cabs from different manufacturers though.

What would be so hard about building one of those? for the side curves, you could just use a jigsaw on the wood, you just couldnt make the actual wood curves, but you could just make them straight. It would be cheaper than an upright, because you would only need about half as much wood. I think someone should try it, just need some measurements. Plus, with enough coats of paints, you would get that candy coated look, and wouldnt even know it was wood.

Id definately consider one of those for a two player nfl blitz cabinet, can someone post front and side dimensions?

come to think of it...the circular angle on the front peices meeting the side pieces could be achieved by circular peices of molding, a little wood putty, and lots of paint, this is defiantely doable.

They also bump out in back to clear the monitor neck.
You are better off trying to duplicate an Aussie lowboy cab then you are one of these. Using wood would require the machine to be ever so slightly larger in each dimension, and then it wouldn't fit through a normal door anymore, the whole thing is basically built to hold the monitor, it is metal and the monitor just barely fits.
I really did look into this and I have one in my living room I could copy, and trying to make that style out of wood would be a nightmare. Everything on them is to really tight tolerances.
But really, counting the price of wood, assorted hardware and a 27" monitor, well, you can just buy one.
If you really want to roll your own wooden one then simply buy your 27" monitor and I will measure the control panel height for you, that is going to be the only dimension you will be able to reuse. The monitor is at about a 60 degree angle and the monitor bay is the exact width and height so that a 27" monitor just barely fits in either direction.

richardp171 had some candy / madonna cabs for sale a while back and he may still have some. He is actually helping me out with a CP for an ASTRO cab. He could probably answer the questions on the dimensions. If he still has the MADONNA cabs, I'll likely get one from him as soon as I sell my cocktail cab. The MADONNA's have rotatable monitors so you can switch quickly between VERT and HORIZ orientation.
