Just thought I'd post a message about an optical switch I stumbled upon.
-
Silent microswitch joys and buttons. I'm in. How much :)
I googled NAC and 130K26080 but couldn't come up with anything. Anyone?
-
I bet that is a special switch made especially for xerox by cherry. I wonder why they would need an optical switch in that situation as opposed to just a regular snap switch. Seems a tad over engineered to me. I would love to play around with some of those but I fear thats something you would need to contact cherry about and probably order quite a lot. :(
-
It looks like it uses a phototransistor optical interrupter switch.

Ugh! I thought you had found a place to buy them. Rats! ::)

About all I've come up with is the entire assembly:
Door interlock switch $27
http://store.oemcomdoc.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=718
Another tech suggested searching the internet for printer/copier parts. Oh, he also told me that it would be 5V, not 24V.
As to why the printers need optical switches, he said that our machines regularly register more than 2 million 'clicks' a month and optical is much more reliable.

I've got some of those- I used to save the stuff our Xerox tech pulled, too. I dunno if they're the opticals or not, though. If you want to order them, have your tech get the Xerox part#, and you can order them direct from Xerox parts.

You say you're not sure if they're the opticals, do they make noise/require power?
Have you tried them out on a joystick/buttons or are you just saving the random stuff the Xerox tech was going to throw away? (admitting you have a problem is the first step :))
Oh, I know I have a problem. You should see the closet in my game room. As for whether they make noise or not, I dunno, as I haven't seen them in a while. They're in that closet...

Stay tuned....
In a few weeks time, I'll have built such a beast.
Did you do any work on this or ... ?
-
does anyone know how I can what to hook each of the 3 wires to? I have a multimeter, but to be honest the only thing I know how to do with it is check continuity (no manual).
I am wondering how to tell which wires to hook to what to test this switch out. 5V, ground and button - what readings can I use to figure it out? Will I burn it up if I apply 5V to the wrong wire?
-
I contacted Xerox parts about this part and they will sell it individually. They called it a "photoswitch"
price: $22.15 :o :o :o :o
yeah, I only need over $800 to upgrade the switches on my 3 sided cocktail. ::)
I would still like to know who makes this part though. Is NAC the manufacturer or what? I know the 130k26080 is the xerox part number.

OK, so here's how you get them for free:
Save the broken ones your Xerox tech tosses. Later, open the machine, and replace some working ones with the dead ones. Place a service call. Lather, Rinse, Repeat!
*disclaimer: This is naughty, and immoral, and the cost to Xerox could cause their stock to tank. Oh, wait, that last already happened.

hmm....interesting. I have a few Xerox copiers at work...

I think they only use those switches in the big mommas.. got a Docutech?

I've got all the parts to make my own optical switch. I have one mounted on my breadboard, so I know it'll work. It's just a matter of building the stick. I've been waiting for the weather to warm up so I can work outside.
And currently, I'm workin on a video.

You know, besides the sneaky way proposed by Kremmit where you get your employer to pay for them ;)
Your employer doesn't pay, Xerox does. The kind of big, room-filling machines that they use those switches in are always on a service contract- your employer pays a set # of $$ every month, whether the machine breaks down or not. Xerox then covers all repair bills, whether the repair costs $0.99 or $99,999.00!
I used to sell Xerox copiers. I also used to manage a photocopy place.

Yeah....I've got a few Document Centres and WorkCentre Pros. They're the big suckers that will staple and 3-hole punch and act as network printers/scanners/fax machines, etc.

'Fraid those aren't quite a Docutech (http://a1851.g.akamaitech.net/f/1851/2996/24h/cacheA.xerox.com/downloads/usa/en/d/demo_6135.swf',600,400)).
The Document Centres and WorkCentres are all about the customer replaceable modules, and I don't think they're likely to have the magic switches. Can't hurt to have a look inside, though.
-
The ones I've got came out of one of our 3 Xerox DP180's. I think the printers go for around $200,000 each - and that's not counting the service contract. The 180 refers to the print speed of 180 ppm.

When I was in the Navy, I worked on Xerox machines a lot. It's amazing how many you need on a ship with only 150 people on board. Anyhow, the technical documents were available online somewhere. I'll look for that info. What you need is to find out the particular xerox machine designator ie, Docutech 594. We refered to them by other names. Anyway, when you get that info, google it and see if you cant find a parts breakdown for it. Usually if you call xerox with the specific parts info, you can get it from them direct. And hey, if you live in Norfolk, VA, you can walk over and talk to them in person. Not sure if someone has already tried that or not but, figured it might be helpful.

I bet Xerox has exclusive contracts with some parts suppliers. That way you need to buy parts from Xerox at a much higher price than if you bought them direct. It ensures Xerox gets more $$, and doesn't loose business to independent repair techs.
