I was planning on ordering a pair of 360 sticks, a bunch of buttons & a spinner & my shipping charges came out at over $30. Mind you I only live just 30 minutes away from them. Is this some sort of error generated by their web page?

You do know most shipping methods are based on package size, and weight, and not directly proportional to distance. (Distance is a factor, but it's not proportional to the mile...)
Sucks huh?
Maybe you should just drive over there...

If they allowed me to drive there it would save me a lot of cash. :)
Seriously though $30 is really double what one should expect to pay which is why I'm wondering about what's going on. I've sent synthesizers via UPS across the country for that kind of money for crying out loud. :)

Some shipping companies and methods cost much more than others. Assuming Slikstik sends their products packaged well and safe, people would rather pay the shipping than get a broken product in the mail.

Maybe they send Express by default...... that really increases costs (but then you get the goods in 2 days)

Why *won't* they allow you to pick up? Esp. if you're so close?

I think you need to email Christian and ask him about picking up merchandise.They have an office with a showroom I think,doubt that he will have a problem.The slikstik team has always giving me great service before and after the sale.

The problem is that many places calculate shipping costs by rounding the weight of each item up to the next whole pound, adding them up, and looking the shipping costs up in a table. With this system, you probably make out better ordering one heavy item instead of many light items.
But also remember that the cost to ship something is more than just what you pay UPS.
For most businesses, shipping price usually factors in the cost of the boxes, packing materials, and the time it takes an employee to pack it up and physically deliver it to the shipper (assuming they don't come pick it up).
With that said, I ordered two tornado spinners back in january and I remember the shipping cost was definitely on the high side (even with all the above taken into account). But, when they are the only place that sells the item you want, you don't have a choice.

Clearly 'shipping' charges include things besides shipping, but you can send a 10"x10"x10" package that distance that weighs FORTY POUNDS via FedEx ground for only $9.19

In the past when I had purchased from them, they did a phenominal job on packing, perhaps packaging is also figured in.

When I sell something on ebay etc. I calculate shipping to California (I live in Canada) and give a flat rate shipping to the continental US based on that price. Sometimes I gain a buck or two sometimes I lose same. It's just easier that way. If someone contacts me with shipping alternatives I am always willing to calculate specific rates. As has been said earlier in this thread contact Christian. He seems a reasonable dude. I'm sure you can work something out.

A flat rate is probably the case if it wasn't an error generated by the web site. I've always heard wonderful things about SlikStik & I sent them an email today about my concern as well as an offer to pick up the goodies myself.

I'd love to give them a call if I could find their number on the site. Under their "Contact" section all that was listed was for a fax machine.

You are more then welcome to come pick up anything you order in person to save the shipping costs. Email Attn: Jerry at info@slikstik.com with your request and we can work out a coupon code so when you place your order the shipping charges will be removed.
