Can anybody recommend a well constructed adapter that will allow me to use PlayStation 2 (Dual Shock 2) controllers with my PC via USB? It seems like there's a lot of them on the market and I don't really know what to look for.

I got a blue one and it works great!! With Dual Shock controllers and PS2 Dance pads.

I've purchased a couple of these over time from couple of different sellers.

I use one for DDR Dance Pad setup I put together for my daughter at Christmas.
I picked up another one recently to use with a couple of Madcatz Retro Controllers (so my daughter would quit complaining about stealing hers).

this is the exact one i use(still need to get another) works like a champ with psx1 and psx2 control and the madcatz retrocon controllers. Just a recommendation when using XP, DO NOT install the drivers on the cd, it no rikey MAME! Just plug control into this adapter and plug it into usb port and bingo, gaming in seconds.
thx to Pieman2004 for the info on the great little retrocon controllers, and linkified for you folks--> http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,32475.0.html

One that I use, PSXtoUSB, $10.99 available at Radio Shack:

Be sure to call and see if it's in stock first, works fine for me, cheap, no shipping costs, surprised it hasn't been listed here before.
ARCADIAC!

I use 2. one i got off ebay. it's a liksang smartjoy. The other is a generic joybox 3. both u can use for dance mats. which brings me to another topic. Dance mats. Some psx converters do this with dance mats---
Mat Press stepmania press/what ever ddr program
up up
down down
up-down down - or - down
It doesn't register the 2nd step. what happens? the decoder thinks you are a d-pad. that happens u get a cheapo one. the better ones register the up-downs and left rights.
hope that helps!
