i fugured as much, thats why i already ordered a new burner....just hoping that i might be able to salvage it.

I found some force burning software that just pushes data into a drive for forced firmwar fixes, but it doesnt work for my drive's chip set

I finally got a 52x firewire burner to replace my old 2x scsi burner. Can't believe the difference, best money I've spent in a long time.

Window XP has the option to go roll back a driver.

- Device Manager
- Find the device and right click to properties
- Driver -> Roll Back driver

not a driver problem but a firmware problem in the flash of teh hardware itself

Yeah, like he said, it won't boot if the drive is attached.  The firmware is hanging and not communicating with Windows.  It's not technically a Windows driver.

Google it.  Somewhere I read of some guy horking his brand new NEC dual layer burner and he was able to get it back, but the steps he had to go through....dunno.

Was it the wrong version?  Perhaps downloading the right version or the old version will let you flash back to it....on the bright side, you've got absolutely NOTHING to lose by giving it a try, right?

well if you were an electronics master you could pop the chip with the firmware on it, reflash it then solder it back on--I think the probability of being able to do this is next to impossible but then again i've seen guys make their own boards in a toaster oven before so you could be one of those guys....

probably more $$$ than worth. but you might be able to send it in to the manufacture and have the fix it.? do not know. That is some thing that would piss me off for a few days.
