Hello everyone,
I have been posting on the general area as I designed my control panel and now getting down to the cabinet. I am willing to build my own, but I was interested in checking out/pricing some used arcade cabinets.
If you have any hints of stores or people to try in or near Minneapolis, your help would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers,
Tom

Dang. I live near Minneapolis, but this is one of the few times I don't have an empty cabinet for sale. Try the usual sources... Lieberman Music Co, CDL, etc. or wait for an auction.
If I happen upon anything, I'll check with you.

Thanks for fast response!
I will try the stores you mentioned (Lieberman, CDL), any others that you recommend since I am new to this scene?
My second question is what is rough ballpark amount to spend on a decent-shape stand up arcade cab?
As always, any info is greatly appreciated and let me know if you come into a cab. I will be putting this together over the next 1-2 months, so I may still need a cab when you get some new ones.
Cheers,
Tom

Well, price all depends... Namco arcades has some great deals from time to time. They sell complete, working machines at great prices. Unfortunately, the Minnesota selection is a bit wanting (unless you want Lucky and Wild) but play around with it and check back. Here is the URL: http://www.namcoarcade.com/gamesearch.asp
If you want a barebones, no monitor, just plain ol' cabinet, I wouldn't spend more than 50$. This is a great way to go if you want to put in a PC monitor instead of an arcade monitor.
Think of the arcade game purchase like you would a car purchase. Is it in good shape, does it work, and does it have everything I want or need. and price accordingly. Don't jump on the first thing you see, it's often the worst deal. And if you have any more questions, this is the place to ask. :)
Good luck!

I have a dedicated Double Dragon that I could part with. It needs a power supply, but for mame that would not be a problem. Cabinet is in pretty good shape, just a couple of small nicks. Monitor was in fine working order as well. Makes for a great jamma cab too, because of the front pull out drawer for swapping PCB's. Email me for pics if you are interested. I am in Eau Claire, so not too far from you.

Thanks everyone (especially APFelon) for the help,
I am looking mainly for a bare-bones empty cab (or with just a monitor) since this will be a dedicated MAME cab. I am going to call the companies you listed today and see what they have.
Update: I just called CDL to see what they had for arcade cabinets and I had the rudest sale associate in recent memory. He is was in the middle of a lecture on how it wasn't worth selling cabinets and I just hung up. I called back to talk to the owner and got the same lecture!! That's fine if don't carry them, but don't lecture me on why it's stupid and non-profitable to sell them, just makes a potential customer for something else angry. Just wanted to share my experiences.
Cheers,
Tom

Wow! Sorry about the bad CDL lead. I bought a Space Harrier from them (at a bargain basement price) and I had a good experience. I thought that their friendliness would carry over to other sales, so I apologize for their rudeness. I'll keep an eye out for a cab for you.

Hey APFelon,
Not your fault about CDL, I was happy for any recommendations. Just post to this topic and I will be notified. Thanks for all the help.
Cheers,
Tom
p.s. Sure glad I am not in Albert Lea tonight, 20" of snow??
