Title: "Come On Baby" Help me with this Weird Korean Machine - PLEASE!!!
Post by: IntruderAlert on March 17, 2005, 12:04:00 am
I recently purchased this machine.

I'm not sure if I want to restore it or part it out or what.

It's a pretty strange Korean machine called "Come On Baby"

It's hard to tell but there is what appears to be some water damage on the bottom rear corner of this side
It's also sitting a bit tilted back
I think the rear wheels have collapsed under it or something.

As you can see it actually runs on a Windows 98 Celeron 500 PC
The monitor looks like a flat screen 29" or 27"
There is some discoloring in the bottom left and top right corners
Can this be fixed?

And it's all 220v so it has to be powered by the power converter on the left of the PC case
(http://img186.exs.cx/img186/4844/80wy.jpg)

I believe this is some sort of transformer in the bottom right corner
It isn't even bolted down.
And I'm not sure what the thing in the top right corner is yet.

This appears to be an interface for the controls
(http://img186.exs.cx/img186/9551/52et.jpg)

And I believe this is an amp for the speakers

I have no idea how much of this stuff is OEM and how much has been added on.
At first this machine would not even come on.
There is a switch on the top of the cab and another near the bottom right when looking at the back of the cab.
Both of these switches seem pretty worn out.
After a few minutes of trying I was able to get the machine powered up and it played for a while before shutting itself off.
I was able to get it powered up once more but this time it booted all of the way into Windows and restarted itself about three times before blowing a fuse on the power converter.

I need to go over all of the wiring and see if there is a short somewhere I guess.
The power converter is a little noisy. I'd like to know if there is a way around using it.
I'd also like to know how to correct the discoloration on the monitor.

Some of the panels of the cabinet are too loose and need to be refastened.

If I'm not able to repair the machine I guess I'll end up parting it out.

and in that case:

I don't know if this sort of monitor would be good for a MAME system or not.
And if I ended up using the monitor in a MAME system, would it have to use a 220v power converter like this?

Also, I'm not sure what else I could do with the Celeron 500
Wouldn't MAME require something more powerful?

Any help or suggestions you guys can give me will be very much appreciated as always.  :)

I think you can fix the monitor by degausing(sp?) it. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I'm not sure what to tell you. It is very funky looking but it may be worth money if they didn't make very many.

Thanks,
Does anyone recognise the monitor or have a suggestion on how to degauss?

it looks like the monitor problem is from magnetizing...most like from the magnets on the speakers if they arent sheilded.

i had that problem once, i removed the speakers, and it fixed itself in a days time. i then put in the proper speakers.

Here's a couple of notes.

1. Create a backup of that drive.  Maybe the MAME Dev's want it, maybe not, but you should create a backup of it.
2. The monitor probably just needs to be deguassed, this happens when you move monitors no big deal.  Post a question in the monitor forum and they will set you straight.

3. The powering chain is probably the problem, but it's hard for me to see where everything is going.  You've got a power converter(what's it rated for), possibly a transformer, etc.

Hopefully I'll get a chance to go over the wiring tonight.
If I can get it going again I'll post some pics.
I think I'll end up replacing those two switches that I mentioned as they are really just junk

Hey intruder check behind the monitor and see if it has a settings board. You may be able to degauss it if it does. Since it is connected to a PC it may just be an oversized PC monitor. And if it is the monitor will have some type of board to mess with brightness, contrast, and degaussing ect.

That thing you said you don't know what it is, looks like a power supply to me. The thing not bolted down is an isolation transformer (likely for the monitor).

this thing says it's 110v / 220v selectable
and I know the PC power supply should be selectable
so the only thing holding me back from switching everything over to 110 is the monitor
.. I don't know much about those flyback transformers

Good idea linking your project to your sig.  Don't think I can help much, though.  What's the game like?

It's this really crazy game about babies competing in various sports? including footrace, electrical jump rope, bull throwing, dancing, swimming from the bottom of the ocean with a ball and chain tried around your leg, slapping, trying to wiggle an octopus off your head, gorilla hunting in a jeep (the other player gets to be the gorilla), trying to stay on a teeter totter board hanging from the bottom of a helicopter while a monkey underneath tries to throw you off balance, long jump onto sumo wrestlers, and I'm guessing some other bizarre levels that we haven't made it to yet.

http://img76.exs.cx/img76/8456/1630002011zl.jpg

the game is strange and fun

I had really planned on buying this just for the monitor to build a MAME cab but now I guess I'll be keeping it like this (at least for a while)

there are some settings on the setup screen that I don't understand
in the game options there is a setting for "level up term" and "level down term" both can be set from 1-5 and OFF
There is also settings for "rest maximum" that can be set 1-5 and a setting for "rest skip stage" that can be set to "on" or "off"

I wouldn't MAME it.  As some people on this board would like to purchase the game from you.   ;D

Yeah.. since it's kind of rare I guess I shouldn't part it out like that.
Now that I have it working I think I'll just finish cleaning it up and getting all of the lights and everything working and keep it for a while.
I might end up selling it once the novelty of it has worn off a bit and build a vertical MAME to take it's place  :)

I'd like to keep this all original if possible

The original joysticks are a little creaky/squeaky

I looked for a guide on reconditioning and maintaining joysticks but I can't find anything =(

Just replace the joysticks with another set with the same bolt pattern. I severely doubt Andimaro put any thought into what type they were using. They are likely just a common Asian joystick, you can probably order the exact same ones from someone for $10-$15 each. If you can't find the EXACT ones, you can certainly find the same bolt pattern.

That things gotta sound pretty good with all those speakers,  how did you come across that cab.

An arcade nearby was clearing out a few arcade machines
there was only one of these though

It's plenty loud
I'm happy with it just barley turned up

My original plan was to part out the whole thing and use the monitor on a MAME cab and use the sound system in a video jukebox
but due to the enthusiasm I have received over the game I guess I'll just clean it up a little and sell it when I get tired of it

the sound system would have made a cool jukebox though

wow...that's a freaky machine. I would keep it....it seems too unique between the visual design; pc inside etc. etc. to take that thing apart.

I bet he is in LA...only there do you find these cool import game cabs.

The low design and speakers in the front would make this type cabinet a nice jukebox ..... although I support not parting out the machine as well.   I would really like to play that game to test it out to see if my kids would like it .....  I guess this game is not in Mame yet, so maybe Mame might be interested in some of the stuff related to this game.

It will be a long time before any PC based games will ever be in Mame, mame can't even emulate the old 386 and 486 based arcade games yet, much less Pentium 2 and 3 based games.

that's a neet game ! i wouldn't touch any part of it ,leave it the way it is and just build another cab !! you don't see games like this all the time!
