Title: Power entry
Post by: cholin on March 16, 2005, 10:08:51 pm
I just have one quick question:  Is this safe?  I plan on using this to provide power to my cabinet, and it's only like a buck!

I am going to use a surge protector in the cab anyways, and this is rated for 250v @ 15A, and here our outlets supply 120v, so this should be safe.  Throw some disconnects on it and it should work right? :)

Sure....perfectly safe when used in the manner for which it was designed.

I've robbed these and other similar parts (switches, fans, etc) from dead power supplies before tossing the remainder in outgoing trash.

As long as you only use it on devices which consume power, you're fine.
The one thing you don't want to do is use that plug as an outlet. The exposed leads constitute a hazard.

Well I planned on using it to get power into my cab.  This way, it wont have a huge power cord coming out, but rather it can have one of those $6 power extensions that I have like 20 of :)  Adds to portability and makes it look nicer.
