I was playing Ikaruga today on my Dreamcast hooked up to a 15 inch pc monitor rotated vertically, and it got me thinking that a cab for this would be awesome. I was thinking something small like a bartop. It would be a vertical cab so i could play ikaruga and a few other vertically rotated dreamcast games that also support the vga box. Also i have been playing these games with an x-arcade solo that i got a while ago, so i could just take that apart and put the controls in the cab just to be easy.
But i do have one problem, i dont have any wood working skills at all. How hard would it be to make a bartop like this. How hard is it to make the cuts and put the stuff together. I take it hardware stores like home depot cant make complicated cuts for you. My first mame cab was just a cocktail cabinet kit from dreamarcades.com (which i love) but i thought maybe i should try my hand at building my own. Are there any plans or instructions out there for something like this?

This is off the subject of CABS to a degree, but related to the Dreamcast.
Alot of video game stores right now may still have a few dreamcasts left but they are not on display and they go for a really cheap price. I own 2 now and will get a third later. I bought mine at a video game store called "EB Games" for 15 bucks! that was an awesome price. And if you wanna make a bar top, but not loose your DC in the process that would be a great way to gain a second one.

i already have 2 DC's so i already have one to spare. I got one at launch and then the other a few months after, its probably one of my favorite systems ever.

Maybe a silly question, but how do you tell the DC to rotate the image for the vertical format? Does your VGA box do that? Mine doesn't.

It's an option within the game itself.
