I have my control panel finished and installed on my mame machine.

Maybe you will have to redo your CP. Here's mine and mine is not as wide. Note I have an old oscar spinner model too.

If you mess around trying to mount the TB without a plate, you should be able to fit a 3" trackball into a 6" space.

Could you not just build it out slightly to the front X-Arcade/Hotrod style?. The extra space should give you plenty of room to mount your TB on the front and the spinner behind it.

I'm not sure how I would do this, I do not have a router so I would not be able to route out any of the 3/4" MDF. Without being able to route some wood out, I have no clue as to how I would mount it without a plate.

Hmmm, This does give me a bit of an idea. I could trim the front of the original panel off so it isn't as wide (figure I could shave about 2" off of it easily) and then make a super thin (width wise) panel with the trackball and spinner side by side to mount in front of the original CP. Not a bad idea Trucker...
