Title: happs buttons w/ different names
Post by: vrf on March 16, 2005, 10:58:18 am
Just a quick question regarding Happs pushbuttons. Some are labeled momentary contact pushbutton.

Others are named ultimate pushbutton with microswitch.

http://www.happcontrols.com/pushbuttons/539200xx.htm

I like the one above with the momentary contact name, since they have a shallow mounting depth (for small CP), but I thought all arcade pushbuttons where momentary contact. Why specify this? Are these different than the regular pushbuttons?

Thanks

Get the version with the horizontal microswitch if you are worried about mounting height. They are just slightly shorter and won't require as much room for wires (since they come out of the side, rather than the bottom.

Momentary=Momentary.
Microswitch= Option to be Normally Open, or Normally Closed. Also, you can easily replace the microswitch piece. I'm not sure if you can do that with the official momentary buttons in your link.

Also, be aware that one type of button is concave and one is convex on the top where you push. I believe the "competition" ones are convex and the others are concave.

okay, thanks guys. I'll probably go with the regular horizontal microswitch ones, as my joysticks will require more depth anyway. I was trying to come up with a very shallow mounting depth for a portable control panel, but I guess I won't be able to get below 2.5-3".

That prodigy stick looks pretty shallow, though. Anyone know how deep that sits in the CP?

See if you can get a populated control panel off a candy cab on ebay, those buttons and joysticks are ultra shallow.

Do any of the arcade controls shops sell these new?

I forgot to mention that I live overseas, in Taiwan, and I'm looking for the parts to be as shippable as possible.

Hmmm. Maybe I could dig something up in a game shop or arcade here. Never seen arcade parts, but I've never tried looking, either.

Oh, if you live in Taiwan then you should be set. Find the local arcade and simply inquire as to where they get their repair parts from.

I know a US source for that stuff, but the US source prices the stuff about about 10 times what they cost in your part of the world.
