will this be the Ultimate Light Gun for all of us  MAMERS ?
Is this a wish come true ?
Sounds promising....Waiting for a MAME review (maybe don't work with MAME yet). Fingers crossed  ;)

I contacted them a month+ ago and mentioned mame and what it was used for / technology and such.

The reply said they would definately take a look and try and make sure that it would support it if possible.

If the gun is any good.  There will be support for it.  I will buy a gun for the right developer if needed.

Now the real question... Do they have two gun support yet?  And will they help support anyone trying to hack their gun into a real happs / arcade gun shell.

now that we have a viable option coming, someone needs to find a way to hack a solenoid into a light gun.  are these the wireless ones?  also, i ope they do get two player support soon...

The eRealGames RGT G! system is totaly wireless.

Hacking a solenoid into one would probably be troublesome.

dang...i guess i'll have to take the light gun stuff in baby steps.  first the actual gun, then a solenoid gun.  i just want some realism.

Add a cap gun to the trigger... shouldn't be that hard :)

or just wiggle/shake your hand a bit (same as the Q-bert kicking the cabinet when he falls untill the knocker was added)  :D

i can almost imagine us all standing in front of our cabs, aiming down the barrel, and yelling "bang bang...bang........bang bang bang".

I personally like wired guns better...  You don't have to worry about batteries or loosing the gun.

but when we don't have any other options... we don't have any other options.

The first hack would be ripping the guts out of an RGT G and mounting them in a wired gun with a solenoid.

yup... two gun is a problem... what I mentioned above...

I don't believe it will come out of the door working.  I just hope that with analog+ we can do it.  But I have a feeling that the sensors will not pick up the difference between the guns... :(  but only time will tell.

They won't even be previewed until E3 in may, but I think it will suck.
Only one gun supported, and it only has 2 degrees of freedon.  If you step 6" to the side, you will have to recalibrate.  Don't tell me it won't be annoying.

I've got a better solution in the works.  It's top secret right now, but I will have it done in a few weeks.

"No means no for Elmo!"  *WHACK*

I for one don't run around the room while playing shooting games.

A lot of the high dollar military/police simulators, use cameras to track gun positions and seem to be accurate, and allow you to move the gun around.   Several of the ones I've seen, let you use your regular gun, and you just stick a plug over the end of the barrel that has patterns on it, and goes an inch or so down the barrel.   I've seen these systems that track a large number of gun/objects at once, so 2 player shouldn't be a big deal.

I've started work on a gun nozzle based webcam approach that ideally will support multiple players.  I'm a long way off from having a viable solution.  If anyone is interested, here are some pictures (http://www.rototron.info?Page=Gun.aspx) of the software image processing/tracking of my cab.  If anyone has any experience with OpenCV, computer vision or OV camera chips, I could definitely use some help.

It's certainly easier to add a wire to the gun than to subtract one. You can always chain it to the cab if you want.  ;)

I personally don't care for the idea that I only have 2 degrees of freedom, that seems like it could get rather annoying. But I do like the idea of no flash, and can be used on any monitor/TV. I just think that accuracy is an overriding concern and would rather be limited by monitor type then by freedom of movement.

I eagerly await Trimoor's solution (so long as it doesn't involve an altoids can).

Trimoor's solution WAS the one in the Altoids can.

It's good to see my April fools joke worked on at least one person. ;D
My solution was just an altoids tin with some wires sticking out of it.  It didn't actually do anything, but it looks neat.

Several of the ones I've seen, let you use your regular gun, and you just stick a plug over the end of the barrel that has patterns on it, and goes an inch or so down the barrel.
That's nothing.  I went to a simulator in Branson where they used real guns, ones that actually fired.

They projected video on a bulletproof dropcloth which must have had sensors in it, as it updated the video in real time as you shot at targets.  The actual game/simulation was pretty lame, but shooting the hell out of a floating blob with a fully automatic Uzi more than made up for it. 8)

Now, does anyone know where to get these dropcloths? ;)

I can't remember right now, but I'll look into it.  (It was several years ago.)  It was mainly a gun shop, so try searching for those.

Ok, I was confused. I didn't pay attention to the dates of that post and though it was after the april fools joke, leading me to believe that you were working on a solution indipendant of the joke. Silly me.
