Has anyone mounted a Ms pacman joystick on to a wooden control panel? I was thinking I could cut an opening big enough to pass the whole joystick through the wooden control panel. Then mount the joytick to a peice of sheet metal then rivot the sheet metal to the control panel. But I wanted to see if anyone would know if this would work before ordering the joystick.

I mounted an old style pacman stick on a wooden panel. I cut a square hole, dropped the joystick in and then used a piece of sheet metal, I think it was 16 gauge over the top of the whole panel and then put a piece of lexan glass over the top. Oh yeah, since the style of the stick has a wing like over lap, I routerded my wood in those areas so the stick was flush with the wood. If this doesn't make sense, let me know, I'm a little burnt out from work!
Good luck to you!

I've mounted one of the joysticks in my panel without using any sheet metal.
The joystick base (side view) looks something like this:
-----------------------------------------------
A
-------- ----------

B

-------------------------------
What I did was first use a router on the top of control panel to remove wood the depth and area of the top part of the joystick (A above). This is so it will sit flush with the top when mounted.
Next, I cut a hole in the wood the size of part B above. I then took off all of the microwswitches, slid the joystick down through the hole. Section A above rested on the routered area and was flush (more or less) with the top of the CP. Then I screwed it in and covered the whole thing with Lexan. No problems so far in the mounting.
Let me know if that wasn't clear. You do need to take the microswitches off to make this work, but it really isn't a big deal. You also will have to take apart the joystick to remove the handle in order to get the Lexan over top.
