Title: Custom Cabinet Artwork
Post by: Flack on March 15, 2005, 01:53:07 pm
I know that the majority of BYOAC'ers are into saving cabinets so I'm going to prepare myself for the inevidable flaming and ask my question anyway.

Does anyone know of any examples of custom artwork on arcade games? I have several older arcade games which are not really classics (ie: Robocop, Shinobi, Aerowings) and I've been considering sanding down the sides of them and painting large murals on them. All of these games are conversions so they aren't in their original cabinets to begin with, and none of them have any side art at the moment either.

I've been kicking around the idea of a large mural on one or more of these games and was wondering first, if you guys have heard of anyone else doing anything like this, and two, what you think it would do to the overall value of the games (not that they're worth much in the first place).

Looking forward to some feedback!

Hey Flack, good to see you here. IMO you should feel free to do whatever artwork that you like, unless it's a true classic like that Q-Bert of yours.

I did custom artwork on my MAME cab that's based on Galaga, but features my favorite little car instead of giant maurauding bugs.

Pictures here. (http://www.stingraysmadness.com/index.php?module=pagemaster&PAGE_user_op=view_page&PAGE_id=87&MMN_position=100:3:89)

It would destroy any value they have to joe arcade collector. You might get someone who's uninformed to pay what the cab was worth before you changed it. Or not.
