Title: Dual USB VGA lightguns in XP
Post by: Chris on March 15, 2005, 12:26:05 am
Okay, I've been reading all the threads on the subject, and I just can't get two USB Act-Labs lightguns to work in MAME on Windows XP SP1.

are you using the TV-out versions or the VGA versions?

The ONLY version mame supports is the TV-out...  If you want two VGA guns running you need the XP version of analog+.

And I don't have the TV-out versions myself, but I was under the impression you want analog+ for that also... but for better offscreen shot detection.

Sorry, I should have mentioned these are VGA guns.

Is no one using VGA guns with XP using the latest MAME:Analog+?
Is that deafening silence a "No"?    :(

Sorry, only one gun... and my cab is still 98 (because I haven't reinstalled since before the XP was an issue... And that was incase I bought a second gun :)

But I did test 98 with two mice when I installed it :)

98 was great with two guns... I guess I could go back to it.  I had some sound issues in 98, though, and DAPHNE ran very poorly in it.  Eventually, it started locking up every other boot or so, and I knew I had to either move forward to XP or back to DOS.  If I didn't have the guns and the Visual Pinball flipper buttons already installed, it would have been back to DOS.

A friend of mine tried the cpnmouse thing on Windows XP and couldn't get it working.

He's just running an older version of mame (I believe .82), it seems to work fine with no code modifications. Just a few changes to the default config, like turning on dual light gun support.

I could only get dual guns working under xp with analogmame.

I finally removed the second gun for 3 reasons,

1. It's really not worth the trouble to keep 2 configs.

2. The screen was experiencing a good bit of signal loss, that made many games too dark. (9200 based avga card on a D9200 monitor)

3. When 2 players are going at it with those guns, you have quite the seizure inducing flashing going on.

I hope the camera based guns play out.

Use 1 ACT labs and 1 camera based, half the flashes.
