???
I need to know if anybody knows the maximum number of buttons I will need on my control panel, in order to play all the Trackball games in Mame? I am especially interested in the golden tee games. Thanks.
-
That's a really good question I would also like to know the answer for.
-
3 in each side
-
What about MAME games? Are there any trackball games that require more than one button?
-
Missle Command uses 3.

Am I missing something or didn't the post directly above yours say "3 each side". I'm not sure this is correct but you seemed to completely ignore the response.
Having a bad day here (sorry),
John

I thought that was referring to Golden Tee Golf solely.

As usual, I'm wrong and apologize. I've had a beer now and all is right with the world again.
Sorry,

What if David Foley decides to trademark arcade buttons. That would be bad.
-
I never played it, but doesn't old school Star Trek have four buttons? Not sure if that's playable with 3 on each side. Somebody who played it?
FWIW, I went with 3 on each side.

It's probably PLAYABLE with 3 buttons/side, but one of the controls (likely warp, or photons) would be really slow to get to, and the trackball would be a poor substitute for a spinner.
This would be especially problematic on the higher levels where you need to spin around, then warp, then fire a photon to hit groupings at the start of the level.

i looked it up here...
http://www.jstookey.com/arcade/sortinfo/
and it gave me these with 4 buttons:
Discs of Tron (Environmental) (dotrone)
Major League (mjleague)
and it gave me these with 3 buttons:
Arcade Classics (prototype) (arcadecl)
Blades of Steel (version E) (bladstle)
Krazy Bowl (krzybowl)
Missile Command (set 1) (missile)
SDI - Strategic Defense Initiative (sdi)
also, why would you need buttons on both sides?
-
Discs of Tron is not a trackball game.
To actually play Major league you first need to run one of the few mame versions it doesn't crash out on, and then you will need two trackballs, a spring loaded bat joystick and a total of 7 buttons, one side has 3 and the other side has 4.
So the real answer is 3, unless you have two trackballs and a spring loaded bat joystick.

So, are most builders putting mouse buttons on the right or left side of the trackball?
It seems that the popular trackball games have the buttons to the left of the trackball (centipede, missile command). Oddly, a bunch of CP's I've seen have the buttons on the right... Why?
And, what are those people that don't have mouse buttons at all doing? I suppose they set up their games to use the P1 or P2 buttons, right?
But, then you wouldn't have the mouse buttons for windows support... And, possible other non-mame Windows games that use the mouse buttons. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
JD

Because they've finally shaken off their "arcade authentic" phobias, and decided to put the controls where it works best for THEM.
And, what are those people that don't have mouse buttons at all doing?
I use my I-pac for game inputs.
For OS-Nav, I've got a wireless mouse receiver thrown into my cab.
When I NEED a mouse, all I have to do is get it close enough to the cabinet.
