Title: 8 button games?
Post by: NoBonus on March 14, 2005, 02:38:22 pm
Are there ANY games in MAME that use 8 buttons?  What about N64? Does that system have 8 buttons + 2 sticks (1 analog, 1 digital)

There are many mah-jong games that use more than 8 buttons. There may also be some trivia games that do, but off -hand I can't think of any good games that requre 8.

The buttons in those games could be switching gears and stuff though.

Of those 4, 3 of them are counting shifters as buttons, and the other one requires a DDR pad type controller to play.

So the correct answer is "None".

There are many mah-jong games that use more than 8 buttons.

Does anyone outside of Asia even know how to play Mahjong? First thing I did after setting up my cab was delete all the Mahjong games.

I know how to play regular Mahjong, but not arcade style Mahjong.

I am pretty sure you not only need to know how to play Mahjong, but you also need to know how to read Japanese.

NoBonus, in all likelihood, you know how to play Shanghai, which is a more simple tile-matching game using the same pieces as you would find in the much vaster game of Mahjong.  ;)

Here's an English-language page where you could learn the basics. I seem to remember that it helped one of the MAME.net forum regulars appreciate the genre a lot more. Imagine, to unlock a whole boatload of hentai images on your cabinet. :P
