Title: 8liners chassis question..
Post by: M3talhead on March 14, 2005, 11:45:36 am
Hey guys,

I'm finally replacing the chassis in my 25" Hantarex Polo, and have a quick question. I'm wondering if I can use the original wires that surround the tube, and replace the ends, rather than undoing everything and installing ones provided in the kit. (See pictures below)

I realize that in the second pic, I'd have to cut and replace the molex connector in order to make it match up.

Yes you certainly could change the connector ends if you wanted to save some time. I've had to do that on some monitors myself. Be sure to let us all know how this works/looks when finished.

Yes, please fill us in on  the results once you finish the swap.  I haven't seen any reviews of the 25" chassis yet.  Pics are mandatory!!!  :)

Incase you haven't looked, you can check out my progress with this cab in the Projects forum. There you'll see that I love taking pictures and documenting everything. I am steping into new territory here with monitor chassis(s), so I'm going to be posting a lot of questions. Hopefully, once everything gets smoothed out and running, I'll post a tutorial.....with about a bajillion pictures.

Until then, I'm off to Ireland for 7 days of St. Patrick's Day-goodness. Drukenness and debauchery included.

Wow, no one has done  review of the 8-Liners 25" chassis yet? I used one to replace a missing chassis in my Maximum Hangtime cab. I'll give you the quick rundown.

The chassis pretty much works as advertised. I now have a nice, clean picture on the tube (after some twiddling with the colors, focus and alignment) and I doubt anyone could tell the difference in quality between the new 8-Liners chassis and the original Wells one.

Installation was pretty much plug and play. I had to snip the AC in and the colored wires from the PCB, but a little solder and some shrink tubing did the trick. The 8-Liners chassis came with all of the plugs, so a little snip-snip and I was good to go.

The AC in is a bit odd. It comes with a standard wall plug. This is nice if you have a power bar sitting in the bottom of your cab, and you can toss the isolation transformer.

The chassis also didn't line up in the pan. I had to secure it with zip ties, but no big deal. It comes in a plastic frame, so the traces on the bottom of the chassis won't short out on the mounting tabs sticking up from the pan.

Over all, it was a pretty simple installation and the quality is A-OK. In my opinion, it's the best "bang for the buck" as far as chassises go.

Any other questions?

just 1:

Does the 25" chassis offered through 8-liners have horizontal / vertical Pincushion controls?
