Title: PCB to convert PC to Jamma
Post by: DreamArcades on March 10, 2005, 12:19:02 am
Has anyone heard of this card? It says it allows you to play MAME on a Jamma cabinet. Clams to be plug and play, but I can't get it to work on any of my cabs. I did get the video out working, but not any of the inputs.
It plugs in via the parallel port, which is odd.  If anyone has any information on this thing please share.

I got it from my importer. The price is right and I was hoping this is something we could offer on our website. The only documentation that came with it was a pin-out diagram. I figured I could figure it out and write my own documentation.

I have heard of that, it needs a driver to work.

The guy I got it from said it didn't use a driver. Maybe I'll e-mail this other place and see if they have one. If anyone knows where to get the driver, please let me know.

If I remember from some discussion about this before it uses some common parallel port joystick driver, same one you use to hook up nes and snes pads to the paralell ports.

Also some MB on the PC don't run the right amount of mA on the 5v line

I made the snes controller thing for the paralell port and it won't work cause of the mA but it does work when plugged into my old scanner (even when no power is connected to it a cap on the voltage line maybe?)

You cn try dos version of zsnes as it has a built-in driver for using the controller on the paralell port so you can test it that way or you can check out the byo snes adapter sites as there is a dos test programs which shows you what data is being sent through on what button which is a good test if you can see anything.

Also you must set bi-directional in the bios (it's not set to that as default) that could  be the problem check that out first  ;D

does it do anything for the video?  or just a hacked cable?

I might be interested in one if the price is right.

Did you get it from a guy named ODE1979 aka Avel Chavez? He sold me one that looks just like this that he was trying to pimp on this board about a year ago, he called it the SHAGMAME here's the BYOAC  thread (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,20544.0.html). It came with the same plug and play wording and couldnt get it to work for anything other than sound. It was imported from Mexico.

If it is the same board and same person, you will likely never hear from them again. They gave me a money back guarantee and they disapeared after getting my green.

Best of luck.

I recently bought one of these adapters on ebay. After many frustrating evenings I have finally managed to get this working with ArcadeOS and AdvanceMame. Overall I am satisfied with it given the price I paid. I just wish I would have had recieved some documentation along with it.

Can you please post some details (drivers, etc.)  for posterity (e.g. if someone else tries to get one working) ? I think there are folks here who still have one of these.

Also: Are you the CongoBongo I met at an SB auction several months ago ?

Cheers.

Indeed I am that congobongo. Most of my challenges were actually not with the adapter itself but getting ArcadeOS/AdvMame working properly together. I ended up using GLITCH77'S BOOT CD. That was quite easy to setup but I still had difficulty configuring the video output in AdvMame. I finally discovered that the guy who runs the site http://www.mameworld.net/dosmame/myconfig.php was using advmame with the same WG monitor type as me. After copying his advmame.rc file everything was displaying properly. After a lot of googling I figured out what to use to map the controls: SNESKey. So you extract SNESKey to your drive, add the path to your autoexec.bat save the sample file "mame.ini" into your mame directory as "sneskey.ini." Edit the key mappings in "sneskey.ini" to the keyboard actions you wish. Set the prog_path to your arcadeos.exe. Then copy go.bat from sneskey to your arcadeos folder.  When you run go.bat it will activate sneskey and run arcadeos. You can then use your arcade controls to operate arcadeos/advmame. You get power from the PC power supply for the audio. That's as far as I've taken it so far. Hope this helps someone else out.

Yes.

Something else I figured out today is that the player2 controls needs to be set as [snes3] in the sneskey.ini. Not sure why this is. Also, I'm not sure if it is possible to access the coin switches at all. I'm going to try to set everything in [snes2] to be "5" and see if it recognizes the coin switches at all.

If the link doesn't work, try changing to "homepage13" in the URL instead.
