I tried setting up 1 button for left mouse and 1 button for right mouse but both mouse keys are recognized as "mouse button zero" Is there any way to program to mouse buttons into mame?

If you have Opti-pac it will...

Can mame recognize 2 mouse buttons?
yes.

Oh, you really mean "Can mame recognize 2 mice as seperate mice?"
The short answer is not really, but . . .
Is there any way to program to mouse buttons into mame?
If you use button 1 on one mouse and button 2 on the other, it's fine.
Otherwise, you'll need to use ver. 0.83 of mameAnalog+ (sorry about it not up to date ATM) if you're using winXP.
WinME/98 is a little different (might work on official mame), but I won't go into the details if you don't have that OS.

I read it as your Mame will not see your right and left buttons one a single mouse?
you have a driver problem.
If this is the case I will try and find a program i had to down load ( I mean huge for a driver) ( took me 1 hr to download it)
I had a kind of the same problem.
only I needed the mid button to work on a three button mouse. Some one at emuadvice helped me out.
If this is your problem let me know because it might take me some time to find out what driver that was.
driver might be a wrong word. lets go with program for now.
It boils down to ... I was able to remap the buttons on my mouse to be what ever I wanted them to be

For some reason, I have had this problem with various builds of Mame. For example, I was going crazy trying to get all three mouse buttons to work, but as you said, two of my buttons kept coming up as Mouse 0. I was using an Optimized build at the time. When I went back to straight Mame, the problem went away.
Let me know if you have tried a different build of mame to see if this fixes it. I am curious as to whether this was what fixed mine, or a combination of things that I did.

Are you planning to continue the project? I really miss my dual lightguns...

I didn't mean 2 mice, i meant both mouse buttons on the same mouse. I am using mame32 version 92, and when I go to tab to set buttons as mouse buttons, they both show up as "mouse button zero" and each click does the same function.

Are you pausing the game before you change the settings? If you are, don't.
