Title: Mesquite Super Auction/LF 25" arcade monitor
Post by: fixumdude on March 08, 2005, 06:24:51 pm
I was thinking of going to my first Super Auction in Mesquite, TX this weekend.  I was wondering what I might need to know before I go.  I.e. where to park, do they only take cash, what's the best time to get there, what to watch out for, etc.  Any tips would be appreciated

I may be looking for a decent 25" arcade monitor to go in my pit fighter/marvel super heroes/MAME cab.  What is a decent price for one with minimal burn in?

Ive never went to an arcade auction just an automotive auction but they should all be the same so the only thing i can tell you iis to get there real early cause it might get crowded,  and they would except credit cards. If you see any good neogeo cabs let me know so that i can go next time they come around I'll go.

If you are just looking for a monitor, not a complete game, then you can go late.

Thanks, EyeDoc, that's exactly the kind of info I was looking for!

P.S. I'm still working on that big blue turbo cab I got from you last year!

It's funny, I ended up buying another Turbo at the auction a while back.  I thought you were going to drop a TV into that cab?

The TV went into the Lethal Enforcers cab.  I will probably put my 21" pc monitor in the turbo cab (to play NFS, etc + mame driving games) if I can get a good 25" arcade monitor for the Marvel Super Heroes and figure out how to hook it up.

I didn't realize the auctions ran until after midnight...I may have to rethink this...don't know if my very pregnant wife will want me gone for 16 hours or more on saturday while she is watching our other one.  I may have to keep checking ebay for a monitor in our area.

Auction times vary wildly, I have been out the door at 3 PM before and I have been there until 10:30 at night, it really all depends on how many things get consigned at that particular auction.

Btw, one trick I learned is go the day before while all the consigners are lined up and waiting to unload and see if you spot anything you want, a lot of times the owner will just sell it to you right off the back of the truck. This works best with $100 games, decent Jamma conversions that aren't gonna bring high dollar at the auction. I have found a $100 bill will usually buy these before they even make it into the auction (seller saves the entry fee, and the commission which will cut $25 off a $100 game, $38 off a $200 game, $41 off a $300 game and so on.

That's a good point.  They do frown on it a bit, but it always goes on.

I'm not showing up until pretty late in the evening.  MY very pregnant wife has "requested" that I not waste so much time on my hobby for a while.  This is our first kid and I agree with her.  I'm not building any more MAME cabs right now and am just looking for a couple of cheap cabs to put some spare boards I have into.
