Hi Guys....looking for your input/suggestions. I'm building a cocktail cab right now and I got replacement glass, tempered but not tinted. I'm thinking now I should have gotten the tinted glass.
My question is, does anyone know of any glass tinting "film" or kits you can get (auto stores?) that is simple to do, inexpensive and looks good? If I can't find anything low cost that looks good, I'll just go with the clear glass. I just thought maybe someone out there might have done something like this before. My cocktail table top has been covered with black laminate, but I think the tint would look even better. Let me know. Thanks!

I tried auto window tint film and did not like the results. I would suggest looking for a tinted piece of plexi to put under the glass to cover the clear spot.

With my custom sized clips, I won't have any room to add additional plexi under the glass....thanks for the suggestion tho. What exactly was it that you didn't like? The actual look, air bubbles?

I wonder if there's a spray type tint that might be good for this application...
just a thought... my guess is that, depending on the size of the roll of auto tint, seams as wells as bubbles could be an issue...

the window tint blurred the picture...and there were bubbles too.
I did not mean to add a sheet as large as the original glass....just add a piece a little larger than the clear spot that you see the monitor through.
If you have a blank clear glass...then I would suggest masking off the rectangle for the monitor and paint the glass black from the underside. I would also mask some rectangles on daigonal corners for art.
I had a vertical cocktail....I stripped the original black paint from the underside of the glass and repainted it for horizontal...I also had to cut the wood to rotate the plastic monitor surround..

Hmmm...I see what you are saying, but I'm not sure I want to paint the glass. I went to the trouble of putting black laminate on the table top already, so it has a nice finish. I can apply artwork to the top, and just have the clear top over it all. One thing I guess I could do is get some *thin* tinted plexi and put it between the monitor and the table underneath (get it?). So from above you would see clear glass, underneath that would be black laminate, underneath that is the wood top, underneath that would be the small tinted plexi for the monitor hole, followed by the monitor. How's that sound?

You want it either flush up against the topglass...or the monitor glass ( they make tinted plexi to hide screen burn...
If it is floating between the 2 you will get something like reflection...and it will not look too good.
