Title: What's the native resolution of NES games?
Post by: JCKnife on March 08, 2005, 08:04:47 am
I tried a search but came up empty. Are all NES games the same resolution? If so, what is it?

Not ALL of them, but the default resolution of the NES, IIRC from my days playing around with that processor, is 256x224.

Note that it may be different for PAL vs NTSC

Yeah, keep in mind these are just off the top of my head... but I think the PAL is 256x240.

If I recall, that's the REAL NES resolution, but most NTSC games assume overscan and use the first and last tile rows are like any other area of RAM.
Hence why you can see garbage at the edges of the screen a lot of times.
