Title: Game hauler for sale, cheap
Post by: paigeoliver on March 06, 2005, 11:18:30 pm
Selling my 1984 Ford Ranger. It is still chugging along and probably has 269,000 miles now, but it MIGHT only be 169,000. Windshield is cracked and it will die a few times when you first start it up (usually only first start of the day, and usually only when it is cold out), but besides that it goes, goes, goes.

It has the V6, auto trans, and the long bed. It hauls games very well. I have replaced all the tires, the brakes, the spark plugs, the battery, and the electronic ignition in the past year, and the spare sitting in the bed is a brand new tire that has never even been on the truck.

It is in St. Louis, and the tags don't expire for another YEAR, so I can hold it for a while as long as it is paid for.

Truck sold this afternoon. Buyer really got a deal at the $500 I took for it. I would have kept it as a spare but my insurance is double with two vehicles (you would think that the second vehicle wouldn't add much to a person living alone, but nope, it just doubles the cost).

Why would they have to fix it?  If it goes, stops and sometimes turns, it's good enough.  Anything else like wipers, radio, and shocks are luxury items.

My old farm truck couldn't go over 30 mph the last 6 months I drove it.  It didn't matter because I worked close by.  I still have the truck btw.  I had to add new steel in the floor to support the seat (it fell through), but "the bed is solid." ;)

The only thing they will HAVE to fix is the windshield, it wouldn't pass inspection anywhere. In my area people normally register older vehicles like that at addresses belonging to friends or relatives in the non-emissions counties so they don't have to worry about emissions (I did). Everything else on the truck besides the windshield will pass the safety inspection and the only reason it dies is because it has a vacuum leak I couldn't track down and I didn't want to replace ALL the vacuum hoses as that would be a pain.

Crazy Cooter . . . Don't you own an auto repair shop in downtown Hazzard County?  How come you couldn't fix your own truck?
