Just curious, for those that have completed their cabs, do you think a 21" PC Monitor is big enough for 4 players or should I scrap that idea and hit up a 25" Television?
-
Well bigger is better so if it's available to you, get the 25" for the hell of it so you dont regret it later.
-
I've got a 21" on my 2-player cab and I think that's too small. For 4 players I'd be aiming for 26" minimum.
-
I agree with ELVIS. I've got a 21" VGA in my cab, which is fine for two players (my GF ordered me to make a SMALL cab! She doesn't know me as well as thinks, and I don't think she went in arcades as a teen much!), but I wouldn't like to use it for 4 players, and with a TV you get a much more natural look to the games without having to use filters. Go for the TV, dude! ;D
-
I concur. I have a 21" in my 2 player defender cab
and its fine for what it is.
Would never want to get 4 people on it.
I would say anything over 29" would do well for 4plyr
-
I have a 25" in my 4 player cab and it works fine. Any smaller would be too hard to see and anything larger then 27" would be too hard since TV is only about 20" away from your face. A 29" tv at that short of distance would probably give you a headache.
-
I have a 29" TV in my 4 player unit... no headaches..
-
Exactly :) I plan on putting a 27" in mine as a TV too.
-
forget all that . I used 19" in my 4 player works great.
19" x 2
-
Daywane that is very cool. Where'd you get the concept from?
-
I'd say that it depends on the cabinet size and shape. Gauntlet had a 19" screen, and that was large enough.

Heh nice cab D!
And for the record, I think a 29" screen WOULD give me a headache...
I'd never be off the damn thing! ;D

That was only a 19" screen.. wow.
and cosidering 1/4 of the screen was taken up by the score,
there isnt much left over after that.

I have 27 inch television in my 4 player and it works great. Just remember, you have to complement your screen with your control panel. If you have a big 4 player control panel it will even make a 27 inch screen look kind of small, so I can't imagine what it makes a 21 inch screen look like. Id just spend the 170 dollars and get a nice 27 inch tv with S video. ;)

The original monitor in my cab (before it died) was 21"....

Yeah, but on a decent game, this doesn't make any difference - being such a great game and being a smaller 4-player cabinet, it didn't make much difference. That, and the fact that screens were smaller back then ;)
Ultimately it comes down to your cabinet size...

I have a 19 inch VGA monitor in my 4 player cabinet. I've never had any complaints. It being a computer monitor (not a TV/arcade monitor) makes it very legible and no squinting is required.
