Guys,
I'm hoping someone can help here. I'm trying to remember the name of an arcade game from the mid to late 80's. I can't recall all the gameplay (well, the machine was in a pub - what do you expect!) but here goes.
It was a scrolling shoot em up. I'm sure that it was left to right but some of it may have also been vertical. There were certianly power ups. The one bit I remember clearly is at one stage a series of "dots" (fireballs, bombs or something) converged on your ship and then expanded again. As I recall this was a real bugger to try and get out of.
Does it trigger any brain cells anywhere?

It sounds like hundreds of games from that period,
Try the 1940 series (1941 etc.) from capcom

No, it definately wasn't the 194x type of game. It was more a sci-fi/spaceship kind of setting. I'm sure you flew over landscapes dotted with bunkers and such like. End of level bosses that sort of thing.
I realise this is a real stab in the dark but it may be familiar to someone.

Legendary Wings?
You're not a spaceship, but it did have both vertical and horizontal side-scrolling levels.

Were the bosses big mechanical fish? Was probably one of the Darius games if so.

or gradius.

Actually it sounds like ordyne. The dots bit anyway, and flying from left to right, but i don't know about the bunkers
