Title: Multi-Controller
Post by: bobmonkfish on February 28, 2005, 07:22:24 am
Hello i was hoping that someone could help me in a technical question.

I am doing as my Thesis Project a multi-controller. This comprises of research into the feasibility of designing a gaming controller that would be compatible with all the current gaming systems. Basicially a single game controller that can interface with Sony's Playstation 2, Nintendo's Gamecube and Microsofts Xbox.

I am just researching the project at the moment and was hoping that you could be of assistance?

I am wondering if you have any technical information as to the signals that are sent from controller to the console itself? Like are they digital or analog signals? What form are the signals in? and just any technical information regarding the controllers themselves. Encoding, decoding and compatibility between systems. Any information is welcome and appreciated.

Thanks for your help

look at the xarcade encoder.  Good start... but thats digital only.  Most games that you would want to run on a arcade machine use digital controls anyway...

I would love to see someone build up a keyboard encoder  that works with all the consoles like xarcade that would use the happs 49way -> analog... or maybe a pure analog 5k -> all the consoles...  Trouble is they all seem to act a little different... and swapping ranges is not the easiest thing to do.

Have you seen the Quasicon by Quasimoto (http://www.quasimoto.com/) ?

Works with all mainstream consoles and has analog.

Those look pretty cool!

I would consider one in a sec if they had dreamcast connectivity... (or I would have... I now have my dreamcast in a dedicated cabinet... )

I'm considering going down to one of their resellers and ask about the non-cabinet version for pricing.  If its within reason... would make a great start for people who like their consoles.  I'm still stuck on dreamcast and haven't been pressed to move on to a playstation2 or xbox... I do want a gamecube for zelda windwalker... My daughters love Zelda games.
