Title: Took my first step
Post by: bowza on February 28, 2005, 06:48:30 am
Hi

I have finally done it, after 23 years , I now own an arcade cabinet.that's the good part. It now needs fixing up. Picture is large sorry.

http://www.slemspc.u-net.com/cabinet.JPG Williams smash TV has a Soul Edge PCB installed

I have gone large and not sure yet if that's a good thing. It is going to be a Jamma / Mame hybrid, as I intend to collect some of my favourite games as PCB's

What do old games like Galaxians and pacman look like on a 25"/28" screen

I have already replaced the joystick so its has matching black, and tidy up the jamma loom. When doing this I found two of the buttons from bothplayers have been wired together so there are only four unique buttons, I think this is all Soul Edge supports

Planned work,

Fix dead screen, my fault blew it up doing caps. :(

replaced buttons and switches

T-molding replace

New perspex for control panel

Fit PC motherboard AMD 17xp 756mb

work out rest of cabling for Mame

Then sort out any other problems i find.

It's always good to go big!  :)  A lot of people tend to have these huge cabinets and tiny monitors...  Pac-Man, Glaxian, any game really will look good on that monitor.

Keep us updated with pics, looks like you are off to a good start (other then frying your monitor, lol).

Monitor going away for repair on Monday,

Rewired all the control harness for 5 buttons plus a p1 & p2 start
Seperated the joystick scambled cableing.

All neat and tidy with clips and no soldered joints.

Got a sheet of perspex, large enough to give me 3 attempts at cutting out all holes. Any recommendations for perspex cutting drilling button holes.

Thanks

from the motorcyle in the bottom left and the yellow gas tank on the workbench, I'd guess it's a garage :)

Yes it is my garage, the bike is a honda, and the yellow thing, is a seat cowl.

23 years ago I said to my mates i would love my own cabinet, now I have it.

New monitor is in, but image sucks, needs to come out and go back to guy i got it off, also taking game board as this may be the cause of the fault.

Aquired a track ball USA wilco corp, any hints on how I wire this up if i ever want to use it.

Cheers
