Title: mamewah - looking for layouts for emus with a common theme
Post by: j123vt_99 on February 27, 2005, 09:18:31 pm
sorry for all the questions, but you guys are such a help..started using mamewah and think it is great. i am looking for layouts that carry a theme through all emus. basically i want all the layouts for each emu (genesis, gb, mame, etc) to match and have the same format (screen shot, box, etc).... I am having trouble finding these... I have found a lot of great layouts, but done that carry a theme for many emus... i have minimal art skills, but may try to do my own.

i've been looking at john;s and they are great, but unforunately, they don't take advantage of the box or the title screen

the multi emu skins that cave did are really good and i will probably use them for now

It's not a complete (???) set but TimO has a start on a set like you describe. Check out http://www.timoproductions.com

He kind of disappeared from the scene. I had emailed him a year ago and he planned on doing a Nintendo set, or so he said, then POOF and he was gone. Too bad, he made some great contributions to the community.

Stuzza has a nice Nintendo set that he did.

I have thought for a long time that "themed layouts" would be really cool in mamewah. Jcrouse has a set of excellent themed layouts that have support for one snapshot. It would also be nice to have sets that supports 2 and 3 snaps as well. TimO has started a nice 3 snap set. I wonder how Tim would feel about someone completing his set?
If themed sets were created I bet Minwah would add a button that would allow you to cycle your themed layouts.

JCrouse's collection is the most complete. I like Cave's better but it's really a matter of personal opinions.

Does anyone know of an image repository that would have a lot of images that could be used for designing you own layouts?
Things like characters that illustrate each brand/platform (such as Mario for Nintendo), logos, high res quality pictures of the hardware, ...

I would also be really nice if skin authors would offer the photoshop (or whatever) layered file for download, it would make it easier to modify at existing skin, or extract a aprticular element (such as a character or a logo) for use in another skin.

It would be nice if they hosted these layout source files too, but I don't think they do.

Including localarcade.com I used these resources to build my layouts:
http://www.mameworld.net/massive/Marquee2/GFX/gfx.html
http://vectorlib.free.fr/
http://www.mameworld.net/massive/Marquee2/GFX/Vector/vector.htm

Also, there are free fonts here, like Crackman, which is a great pacman font:
http://www.freemacfonts.com/cfonts.htm

Personally, I like that each layout has it's own theme. It's good to know at a glance (and from a distance) what list people are on. Especially since one of my lists is an "Adult" themed list. It would be a tragedy to not notice that some friend's kid accidentally ended up on that list.
