For those unfamiliar with the game, it's a Win95 (3Do too) Doom style game. One of my favorites from the late 90s. I tried recently to install it on XP, no dice.
I'd love to take an old motherboard and maybe make a bartop Killing Time cab. Has anyone seen or done examples of a Doom type game cab? I was thinking maybe a spinner and trigger stick for controls, but if anyone has made a Doom or Quake cab that's probably the control scheme I would need.
-
I remember seeing a Doom cabinet in a movie... can't remember the name, but some assassin goes back to hometown and ends up the contract is the father of his highschool girlfriend, or something like that. I'll have to see if I can find it to see the controls.
-
Sounds like Grosse Point Blank.
Anyway, I was thinking since the second control has to be a mouse, a trackball is the obvious control, not a spinner.
-
Yes, that was the movie.
Could you mouse look in the first doom? It's been so long I can't remember.
-
No idea, especially given that I'm not talking about building a Doom cab. I just figured it was a good reference point since most people won't know Killing Time.
-
I know you're not building a Doom cab. It was a question that just popped in my head.
-
No.. Doom 1 and 2 did not have mouselook.. not by default.. and it didnt have jump..
the new doom 1 and 2 ports DO have mouselook now.. and jump..

I didn't have too much trouble getting it running in XP. If you choose the .exe's properties, there's a compatibility tab.
I set it to Windows 98/Windows ME in the compatibility setting, and run in 256 colors and 640x480 in the property's display settings. Not sure which of those got it to stop quitting, but was able to get it running and play a bit :) Hope that helps.

Hrm... doesn't stop me from wanting a dedicated cab for it, but I'd be sure as hell happy just being able to play it now. Thanks for the tips, I'll try them this weekend. ;D

Killing Time? How about Time Killers? There's already marquees for that out there. ;D
Or Time Soldiers!
-
Heh, yeah, but there's no evil clown chefs in Time Killers.
-
Hmmm... ROM HACK!! ;D
-
That doesn't address the fact that Time Killers is one of the shittiest games of all time. ;)

I have Doom 1,2,3 on my mame machine. I also have them set up for multiplayer.
