Title: Is Happy OPTICAL Rotary good for spinner games?
Post by: RayB on February 22, 2005, 04:31:49 pm
I didn't know this existed until today (though I saw by searching the board that it's been discussed a little):

(the bottom one, optical)

So I was wondering if that optical rotary joystick is adequate for spinner games (Arkanoid, Tempest)? Does the stick spin freely enough?

It's an ok substitute if you don't have room on a panel for a spinner, however it isn't the same.

It doesn't free float as much, it isn;t a knob, etc...

yeah you can use it. some games are better than others. You need to adjust sensitivity accordingly. I use it for tron, arkanoid, kick, and tempest. tempest really needs an actual spinner though!

Awwwwww. This is the third time this has happened in two weeks.

Just when i've sorted my budget and dimensions, something else pops up and forces me to buy it.

I should have got myself a cheaper hobby, like a Ferrari or something. :'(

If you try to buy everything before you build, you'll end up like me.  Closet full of joysticks, empty bank account, and still no MAME cab.
