I have a 19" Dell 1226H that I'm decasing for my cab. I did manage to decase it, but I have a couple of questions:
The tube shifted around somewhat in the process. Is there anything I should look at to make sure of a safe powerup?
There is a grey wire that ran around the perimeter of the screen, grounded to a screw in the bezel. Is this to prevent RF interference, and do I need to attach it to a ground for the monitor to work properly?
There is a series of copper 'combs' all around the edge of the screen that contact the metal frame of the monitor. Is there anything I should be sure that these are or are not touching?
On this monitor, it's possible to decase it and still have the swivel base attached. Is there any reason that I have to make a wood bezel and attach the four front corner screws to it? I only ask because that's what everyone seems to be doing. My preference is to place it on a shelf, adjust the angle, and put my Happ bezel in front of it (which fits very well, btw.).

Just a mild bump and a further plea :)
C'mon guys, just reassure me that I'm not going to fry the thing. I know we have at least a couple people on here with enough monitor knowledge to do so.

make sure all your wires are still firmly attached.

most likely--there was a thread a few days back regarding this very issue--without it your monitor will emit RF radiation--keep it if you can but its not going to affect its operation (i don't think)

no live wires. only other grounded points
the reason most people fix the monitor in is so that it doesn't go anywhere unexpectedly--i would make sure its secure regardless of how its sitting in there.

As far as loose wires go, I think I'm okay, but it's a little hard to tell just looking through the cage, which I'm reluctant to remove. I will probably just tape down the 'combs' to give them some protection, and go for it.

Just wanted to exhume this thread to say: The monitor powered up with no problems, and continues to not explode ;D
I was definitely erring on the side of caution. I did end up making the more or less standard 'screen-size cutout with bolt holes at the corner' out of plywood to hold it in place, though it does still sit on its original swivel base.
