Title: Can anyone identify this joystick?
Post by: CthulhuLuke on May 01, 2002, 01:04:01 am
Hey all,
I was wondering if anyone knew what machine this joystick came out of?  http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1097534895      I think it might have come out of one of those japanese sit down cabinets, but I'm not too sure on that one.  i'd really appreciate the response on this one, cause I'd loev to have one of those style of joysticks.

Cool, yea, I was wondering if that was a japanese stick.  I had a bid on the other one for the longest time, but got sniped out at less than 9 seconds left.  Was going to pick it up and research it a little to figure out where it came from;  Plus, hell, a joystick is a joystick and is always useful :)

Keep me posted on what you find out!  :)

The money order check was sent in the mail about 3 days ago, and the joystick should be here within the week.  I'll definitely post what the joystick is like, because hopefully it's a capcom style japanese stick, and can be used for my fighting game pleasures.

Well, it arrived today.  Solid piece of work.  It's made completely of metal, it doesn't even seem to have a spring in it.  The microswitches are black and look japanese maybe.  It feels a little funny doing 360s, so it might have been made for machines not running fighting games, but I'll put it to the ultimate test soon enough.  I'll also get pictures up if I ever get another disposable camera.

Cool, sounds like a heavy-duty stick.  Probably late-80's, early 90's vintage considering it's all metal, has a ball top and microswitches.  Wonder if it could be from a claw machine or something like that?  It's 8-way I assume?

Actually, I think that is exactly it... from a Claw Machine anyways... if you want a real Japanese Joystick, you would have to order them from Sanwa.  These joysticks AVG about 16-22 bux though.  I was told you can email them and ask about orders to America or wherever... although I just had someone I knew get them for me from Japan.

My opinions... these Joysticks put any other Joystick to shame... I guess it really depends on your preferences although I like these a lot better than Happ, Wico r whatever... they have a very solid feel to them yet are very smooth and easy on the hands... their buttons kick arse too BTW...  here is the direct link to the joysticks.

Yeah, it might be from a claw machine.  I might try experimenting by putting a larger actuator on it, and see if I can get it to feel pretty identical to my other joystick.  Those japanese sticks look pretty awesome, but they're a little pricey for me.

It is not necessary to purchase from Japan. You can buy very similar joysticks from Suzo (UK). I've bought a couple that look similar to the blue one on Sanwa's website although my ones have red ball tops. They are well made but I find the throw a little long for my taste.

There are also similar looking joysticks being sold on the Ultimarc website. But I don't have first hand experience of those.
