Can Sinistar be played effectively with an 8-way joystick or is the real 49-way stick the only way to go?
Thanks

Could use an analog joy as a 49-way substitute.

I can't play Sinistar with my 8 ways... I'm WAY out of control. :(

I've played Sinistar with the 8ways on my cab pretty much since it's been up and running..... the lack of control of speed makes the game a bit too tough to get any serious scoring done, esp since the Sinistar itself is created and attacks within a minute or so.
Even using an analog joystick (PC) isn't as realistic as using the origial 49way.... so, I just tell everyone who plays that it's just in "Super Difficult" mode until I can buy and install a 49way....

I second that, try as I might I can't even get passed the 2nd wave playing with my comps.

A 49 way joystick has lower detail than an analog stick.

Try modifying the analog control options to adjust the sensitivity, etc. of an analog stick.

Thanks all for the replies. Sounds like the 49-way is the ticket. My control panel design is too crowded for another stick, though... unless I could make it worth it, by finding other games besides Sinistar that use a 49-way stick. What other games need the 49-way?
Thanks,
GT

Try analog and then you can play those games too on your cab.

Sinistar,Bubbles, Arch Rivals, Gauntlet Legends, Gauntlet Dark Legacy, NFL Blitz, NBA Hangtime, NBA Showtime, Blitz 99', NFL Blitz 2000 Gold Edition and Pigskin 621 AD. all use 49-way joysticks. I'm sure there's a few more. When Dave came out with the "SJC interface" I couldn't buy one fast enough. Definately worth finding a spot on your cp for one.

I thought most of these aren't playable due to performance problems on today's PCs and some like Blitz 99' don't support a 49-way joystick as Mame currently stands.

I'm surprised there's been no word from anyone using a CONSOLE version of Sinistar (using hacked gamepads).... what's up guys? 8ways working on that one?
