Title: Need Pac-Man Z80 Sync Bus Controller
Post by: MameFan on October 25, 2002, 09:02:14 pm
Hi.  I was hoping someone here has a working original or a new remake of the Z80 Sync Bus controller or the 285 custom chip.

I have a pacman board that works when I swap someone elses SBC in, but my SBC doesn't work. I've tried replacing the 74LS139 with a 74HCT139 and that didn't help. I've replaced 2 other chips (a pain since the old solder doesn't melt well and I've cut and had to redo a few traces/pads already).  Anyway, I'm gonna cut my losses and hope that some kind sole here has an extra working one for a fair price.

Thanks in advance. Post here or in private message as to your asking amount and type if you have one to sell.

Thank you!

PS: If anyone knows where I could get it for less than $20, please let me know.

Sorry if you've allready tried this... but have you asked bob roberts if he has any and at what price?

That's where I'd look first, if I was you... maybe you could find a dead pac board on ebay, with a hopefully working z80 sbc

good luck,

rampy

Bob only has the kit of sockets and chips to replace the existing ones keeping your old SBC pc board, and my board is now too damaged to fix anymore. -- SO it's time to cut losses and just get a new version replacement that's a single chip on a card.

Re: Ebay.  The lowest I've ever seen pacboards go for is about $75 in "untested" or "damaged' condition, and those are always with all socketed chips removed and no daughter boards. The cheapest with all boards and daughter boards included (still "untested" or "broken") is typically $120+.  Sorry, I refuse to buy into the scammers on eBay who sell defective stuff as "untested", and don't disclose to newbies that parts are stolen/etc.. (or veterans if they dont includethe picture showing that evidence)

I've been scammed enough there (while at the same time keeping my reputation entirely clean selling only old home cartridge based system stuff, eg. Atari) and now RARELY buy arcade stuff there. (Sadly I was just scammed on a Pacman joystick. Picture was taken "just right" to hide the fact that the top and bottom piece had 2 screw holes broken out thru the edge of the metal, and one was attempted to be welded, again broken, and had a BREAD TIE tying the top and bottom together with a large screw and washer.  Of course seller failed to respond to my complaint and PayPal/ebay wont listen to "not as advertized" issues.)

I know that I can get a replacement Z80 SBC for $20+shipping from a couple places online, but was hoping someone here in the fan community rather than ebay scammer community had one for less and wanted to share their excess.
