Best Buy just opened up in Canada today so i swung by and picked up a couple of the RaiderPro Joysticks for my second cabinet (I SWORE I wouldn't do that.. but the plans are in the works)
Anyways, the texture on these things is WIERD! It's like velvet.... and kinda sticky... Yuck! I'll probably get used to it, but I sure don't like it at the moment.
I was trying to rub off the texture........ Then I looked at the shape of the joystick..... The motion my hand was making..... I had to stop!!!!!!!
Does the texture of these things wear off after a while with normal um...... use?

Its annoying but you may get used to it. Its like a cross between rubber and peach fuzz ??? I never gave myself a chance to get used to it. I put it in the closet and bought an 8-way trigger stick from Happ ;D

and to add to those comments... they have horrible buttons. They click loud, and seem hard to push rapidly.

;D Heheh!
Personally I don't mind the texture. WTF, it's comfortable! What's wrong with that? I don't really think it's rubbery, just feels buffed to a matte finish. Not sticky at all (unless you're playing a lot of Fantasia...) I don't notice it at all once I'm into a good game of BattleZone! If it really bothers you, stick a buffing wheel on a Dremel and polish it to a shiny finish!
The switches are pretty loud. Theyr'e basically large microswitches with no enclosure. I'm sure you could hack some regular enclosed switches in place on the provided PCBs. Again, once I get into playing, I really don't notice it. Probably more bothersome to the leaf-switch crowd... ;)
Now I wouldn't mind having a couple Tron sticks instead, but looks like no one wants to make the handles anymore. :P For $9, I can't complain about the Raiders too much...

I'm afraid if I tried to polish it, it would become less opaque (and maybe too slippery) as well...I plan on doing the EL wire someday so it wouldnt be good to be too clear either. I'll live with them as it...
Although.... i could polish the outsides and lightly sandblast the insides to get them opaque again.... God! Make these ideas go away! The modifications never stop!

I dunno, the inside parts seem pretty opaque, I think that's just the makep of the plastic, not the texture. You could try polishing just the bottom of one of them, where it won't be seen...
