Title: Rotary Interface Problem

Hi Everyone.

As you may notice this is my first post. I only stumbled across the board yesterday! I have been using the MAMEworld.net forum for a while and have also been using the BYOAC site but didnt know there was a forum! Doh!!

If only I had known earlier this forum would have been of great use but now my build is almost complete, oh well. (Pics to be added soon)

Saying that, I have had some great help from the MAMEWorld.net forum, namely from Orclord and Italie, thanks guys!

It probably wont work if your separate PSU is not powering the IPAC.  Try powering your rotary interface using the IPAC.  That's how I'm powering mine.   I'm using the LS30's, and don't know much about the Happ sticks, but you should also make sure the ribbon cable from the stick to the interface is on the right way.  I've also found that it helps to have a good earth ground for the sticks.

Trying to send power back to the IPAC that comes from another power supply is not a good thing.  Hope it didn't burn something up.

Thanks for your input guys.

I mailed Druin and he said it is ok to use a seperate PSU for the interface, just make sure it is outputting around 5v (mine was 5.02)

It seems the problem is with my Ipac, I measured the output from PL3 SW5 and it only read about 0.8v. I hooked the interface up to two other Ipac inputs that i knew were working ok and hey presto it works!

Just means I may have to be Ipacless for a while if I have to send mine back

btw, hook a single button up to your ipac (ground -> button -> rotary position)... and test it...

Always test equipment in steps so you know where the problem lies.  If the button works in any fassion... its not the ipac.

Druins converts the 12 inputs into two button presses similar to any button.  So the ipac sees it as just two buttons...  Very simple...

Once you have your ipac working the way you like it... then add the druins board and get them working together.
