Upgraded my computer over the weekend, so it took care of a number of my problems, but I still have a periodic problem where the controls just freeze. The game continues, but I can't input anything at all. I've got a regular keyboard plugged into the computer as well and when things freeze up, I can't even get the game to respond to the keyboard--can't even ctl-alt-delete out of it. I'm using an i-pac4 usb. I've had controls freeze totally and have to shutdown the computer. If I go to Notepad, the controls obviously work and programming mode shows all is well. Not sure why they don't respond sometimes.

Make sure you have sticky keys disabled.
Start-ControlPanel-AccessibilityOptions-Keyboard.
I always uncheck all 4 options.

This still happens quite regularly. I can play everything just fine for a while and then the controls freeze and I have to powerdown--can't even do ctrl-alt-delete.
Could this be a driver issue??

it absolutely can.
make sure your using BOTH the latest bios for your motherboard and the latest drivers. This can really fix a ton of problems.
2nd. Are you using usb 1 or 2? my motherboard you can turn them on / off (in bios setup). You might want to try the other. There is a chance that the usb2 drivers are the problem and you can get away with usb1 compatibility mode. Not a real fix, but it should be fast enought until updated bios / drivers come out.
Next. Make sure your system isn't overheating. It might just seem like its the controls. The question is this... does the game continue to move... but you cant? Easy fix is to open the case up and put a big kmart style box fan infront of your case that will replace the air ever few seconds. Being new, it will probably not be dust / crap in your cpu heat sinc (normal problem) but did you install the heat sinc yourself? Any chance its not touching across the processor? If it isn't seated well it WILL overheat. They have to be touching (or better yet... using thermal paste).
Also... play with the keyboard for a while (or have it plugged in and quickly when it does lockup see if the keyboard still works.

Mine used to do that with the Ipac USB. what I did was buy an adaptor the changes the USB to a KEY BOARD plugin. So I plug my IPAC into the keyboard outlet on the back of my Computer. Ive never had a problem since. The adaptors are only like 5 bucks.
