Title: Any DivX pros out there?
Post by: Brax on February 13, 2005, 04:37:08 pm
I downloaded a couple movies and they don't have sound. I've watched a few other DivX movies now and they worked fine once I downloaded the plugin from DivX.com

Anyone have any idea why these ones wouldn't have sound? (2 seperate movies) The video plays perfectly.

The DivX player says it contains Audio Data: Tag 8192

I found the answer myself in case any one else has the same problem.

Get a program called Gspot here (http://www.headbands.com/gspot/download.html)

Cool little utility.  Point it to any .avi file and it will tell you what video and audio codec you need in order to play it.  There are a lot more codecs than DIVX and it's practically impossible to figure out what you need without a utility like this.  Unfortunately it only supports AVIs and not MPGs.

i cant understand why they keep making so many different types. each new one does not seem to improve on quality or anything else that i can discern...
